Principal's Report 11th March 2022

Hello Everyone!

As you are probably aware, we have had a spike in Covid infections this week peaking at 11 on Monday. As such it is timely to revisit  the current guidelines regarding how schools are required to treat students who display symptoms.

According to the current guidelines this is what we have to do:

Symptomatic Students

If a child becomes unwell during the day, they should be collected from school as soon as possible. Symptoms include:

  • fever
  • chills or sweats
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • shortness of breath
  • runny nose
  • loss of sense of smell or taste.

Thank you to everyone who has found themselves in the position to pick up their child. I understand this is not always convenient however this procedure is not only to keep the child in question safe but also the students and staff who remain onsite. Further details can be found on our website HERE

Masks

  • Primary school staff will be required to always wear masks indoors unless teaching a class. They are not compulsory outdoors.
  • Yr 3 to 6 must wear a face mask indoors even if they are vaccinated.
  • F - Yr 2 are strongly encouraged to wear masks

Please email your child’s classroom teacher and me if your child has an exemption. Masks are not required outside. For more information please go to our website HERE which is linked to the latest Department Education and Training advice..

Shade Sail

It is now triumphantly atop the playground! It became apparent from the two guys who installed it, there were several issues with the supply of materials, in particular, the pins which the canvas is secured to. The old ones had to be replaced before the sail could be successfully attached. Anyway, it’s finally up and doing it’s job.

Assembly

Oh how’d I’d like to get the whole school together! We are currently holding assembly online and beaming it to every classroom each Monday afternoon. This has developed a whole new range of skills in communication for our student leaders who run it and each of the year 6 leadership teams who prepare it. However, a broader sense of community is the victim of screen only engagement so l am waiting on confirmation we can have a split assembly - F-3 and 4-6 on alternate days. Clarification on whether this will be provided when the next ‘School Operations Guide  - Version 31’ (Yes, this will be our 31st book of guidelines since 2020!) comes out.

Yr 5/6 Camp

In 2020 our Yr 5/6 Canberra Camp was, like all school camps, cancelled. It usually occurs every two years and was booked to occur in the second week of next term. However, Covid 19 has presented many challenges and after careful consideration of the Risk Assessment by the School Council and with support of the Department of Education and Training, it has been decided to not go ahead with it this year. Contributing factors included the length of the bus ride, isolation issues if a student or teacher was to become ill on the bus or in Canberra and the secondary consequences on student teacher ratios.

However… There will still be a camp this year for our Yr 5/6s!

Fortunately we were able to secure an Adventure Camp at Arrabri. Adventure camp activities, unlike those in Canberra, are outside in the fresh air, making it a far more suitable and safer camp for our students. These include Flying fox, Archery, Orienteering and Ropes Courses. This means we are less likely to have issues with ventilation and subsequent transmission if a student becomes ill. If a student does need to come home, Arrabri’s proximity to Melbourne makes this a possibility and doesn't have the effect of grinding the rest of the students’ camp to a halt. This camp has been booked for the 3-5 August. More information on Arrabri HERE.

Parent Teacher Meetings
Tue     22nd March     3.50 - 7.30pm Parent Teacher Meetings
Wed    23rd March     3.50 - 5.00pm Parent Teacher Meetings

These will open for bookings soon. Parents will be notified via Konnective when they are going to be opened for bookings. This can be done via the Compass app on your phone. Information about how to download the Compass and Konnective Apps can be found HERE on our website on our Communications page.

Have a great long weekend everyone.

Stay safe and well.
