Principal's Report 1st August 2025

Hello Everyone,

Values

As a result of our recent School Review, as well as the work we are doing with our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program, our school values have changed from six (Respect, Responsibility, Care, Encourage, Value and Challenge) to the “three R’s”;

Respect • Responsibility • Resilience

At WPPS, we intend to use the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Framework (SWPBS) to create an environment where our students thrive with their social, emotional and academic learning.

SWPBS is a school-wide approach to help support, define, teach and reinforce positive behaviours of ALL students. The school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.

This term, after extensive consultation, we’re excited to share our matrix of expected behaviours that align with our values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. A copy of the matrix can be found by clicking HERE.

We have begun this week by focusing on how we demonstrate Respect in all spaces with our first three expectations:

  • We use manners and are inclusive
  • We follow the instructions of all staff
  • We support others to share their ideas

To learn more about these expectations, take a look at our first video, produced by our Year Five team.

WPPS NAPLAN Results
This week, our Year 3 and 5 students received their NAPLAN results. Some of you may have seen in the news that Victorian students ranked first or second in 18 of the 20 NAPLAN domains, an amazing achievement.

We’re incredibly proud of our students and the results they achieved. Below you’ll find an overview of our results compared with the state. We’re pleased to share that we continue to achieve well above the state averages across all domains tested.

While we’re proud of our results, we still continue to strive for improvements and to support all our students in achieving their full potential.

NAPLAN results are marked as described below:

  • Exceeding (dark green): the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
  • Strong (light green): the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
  • Developing (grey): the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
  • Needs additional support (black): the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

Our results:

Year 3 & 4 District Basketball Day
On Monday 28th July, our enthusiastic Year 3 and 4 students took part in the District Basketball Day, competing in a round robin format against other local schools. Students were split into various teams, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was fantastic to see so much energy, encouragement, and determination on the court. Most importantly, everyone had a great time, with lots of smiles, high fives, and memorable moments. A big thank you to our staff, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the day a success!

Our Staff
Hello Wattle Park Community,

I have been at Wattle Park since halfway through 2018, and while I began primarily teaching Physical Education for the first four years, I am now in my third year as a classroom teacher. My love of sport and exercise has been a through line of my life, playing all sorts of sports from swimming and rugby to footy and athletics. Outside of sport, I love to read (fantasy and sci-fi as my favourites).

My position at Wattle Park was actually the first teaching job that I ever got, and it has been a joy to develop my practice here. I have also spent time teaching part-time at other schools during my first four years before moving to a full time role at WPPS.

This year has been my first year as a classroom teacher in Year 6. A position I am really enjoying.

This has been a little bit about me, so if you see me around the school, feel free to say hi.
