Parents and Friends Association (PFA) News
February 10th 2017
Dear WPPS Families,
A very warm welcome back to everyone for a new school year, particularly to the new families joining us for the first time in 2017.
The PFA is a group of (predominantly) parents of children at Wattle Park Primary School, is one of the many ways to get involved in the school community, and to get to know new parents. The PFA are involved in co-ordinating fundraising and social events throughout the year. The School Council allocates these monies raised to improve the facilities, equipment and grounds of our school. The events are selected to be a fun experience for the children and parents, and rely on extra hands to assist in the smooth running of them. In 2016, the PFA Fundraising was in excess of $23,052 and the Fete raised $31,221.
Our first event for the year was held on the weekend before school went back with a Community BBQ at Bunnings in Box Hill. Thank you to the Van West family for co-ordinating this event and to the families involved in cooking and serving on the day as Gayle noted in last week’s newsletter. This event raised a profit of $941, which is a fantastic result on the last day of a long weekend, and a great start to working towards the PFA yearly target.
The biggest fundraising event on our calendar this year is our 15th Twilight Movie Night on Friday 17th March. We are screening the smash hit of the Summer, “Sing” on the big screen under the stars. There will be more information provided to you as the day draws closer, so keep an eye on the newsletter and make sure you are signed up to receive the “Konnective” messages. There are many ways to get involved, by purchasing a sponsorship package, signing up using “Volunteer Spot” to put your name down to man a gate, help out on the BBQ, Wine or Movie Food stall, or by giving us a hand with set-up and pack-up. Tickets will be available using “Try Booking” and pre-purchasing your ticket provides an opportunity for families to purchase tickets at a discounted price. We’re thrilled to advise that the Gourmet Picnic Boxes will be available for pre-purchase again this year. There are a limited number of boxes, so get in quick so as not to disappoint! The Movie Night is a Family Event, whereby the children must be accompanied by an adult.
Our first meeting for the year will be held on Thursday 23rd February at 8pm at Tash Sinclair’s home. Please contact Tash or Caroline on the contact details below to receive a copy of the agenda and venue details. Why not grab a friend and come together? We farewelled some very valuable parents to the PFA last year as their youngest children went off to Secondary School, and we warmly welcome some new faces. Once again, the PFA is one of the many wonderful opportunities to get involved in Wattle Park Primary School.
