Hello Everyone!
Teaching and Learning - around the school this week
Teaching - Our Staff
Ms. Adriana Bisognano is one of our two Year 2 teachers and has been with us since Ms D'Mello left at the end of term 3 in 2021.
“It has been a joy getting to know my class this year in a face to face environment. Remote Learning has made me appreciate, as a teacher, how influential we can be in real life situations with our students’ learning journey. I look forward to a productive year of learning with my class, 2B.”
Learning - Our Students
Wattle Park Primary has a long established history of working with Deakin University in a variety of ways. One of these ways is to have their Bachelor of Education Students run two science sessions with each of our two Year 2 classes. Each one of these lessons involves up to 18 Deakin University students and is coordinated by their Senior Lecturers who also work with our students onsite:
Lihua Xu (Ph.D)
Senior Lecturer in Science Education School of Education, Faculty of Arts & Education
and
Eden Ralph
Tutor in Science Education
Each working with one or two students in each of our Year 2 classes to run a science investigation that focuses on the Year 2 science curriculum.
These lessons are occurring on the first two Fridays of this term and investigate the concept of ‘Push and Pull’ within the physical science domain. This topic looks into the way objects move depends on a variety of factors including their size and shape: a push or a pull affects how an object moves or changes shape.
2022.04.25 ANZAC Day - Dawn Service
On the ANZAC Day public holiday Wattle Park hosted our traditional ANZAC Day Ceremony. This was made possible by the help of Emily Beard and Rosanna Kirn who made sure we had a fire which provided both warmth on a cold, still morning and an opportunity to focus and reflect upon the sacrifice our ANZACs made for us. Around 60 people attended. Special thanks to our Assistant Principal, Emma Tan who organised tea and coffee and the wreath that was laid.
2022.04.26 ANZAC Day - School Ceremony
All WPPS students also honour our fallen ANZACs each year at a school service held for 15 minutes on the day after the ANZAC Day public holiday. This year one of our Year 6 teachers, Ms Statkus, coordinated this ceremony with our School Ambassadors who did a fine job leading our service. Our school ambassadors are pictured above: Charlotte A, Liam S, Sumayyah S and Atticus C. The Ceremony included an Acknowledgement of Country, a brief history of the ANZACs and a reading of the poem ‘Alive with Poppies’ by Tomos Roberts. A wreath was laid, the Last Post sounded and a minute's silence was observed by all of our students. We will remember them.
Buildings and Grounds
Thanks to the very industrious efforts of Aisha and Duncan Grey and Mel and Steven Lew on Saturday the 9th of April during the holidays, the old chook pen has been DEMOLISHED! Whoo hoo! I cannot thank them enough for their mighty efforts. I am waiting upon confirmation of a 10M walk-in bin to be delivered onsite so we can have a Working Bee on Sunday 15th of May from 10-12 noon to get rid of the remaining debris. I will confirm the Working Bee after the walk-in bin has been confirmed.
Over the holidays we had the four garden beds near Team Kids (Before and After School Care) tended (tamed..!) to. We employed a gardener with a Working with Childrens Check who worked in conjunction with Saskia from Team Kids. Under the mulch we used rolls of brown paper we found while cleaning out the art storeroom as weed matting. We’ll let this garden settle before adding other plants which will be done with the intention of providing a clear line of sight for students to avoid any crashes occurring around corners.
Thank you to Rosanna, our PFA President, Anthony, and Ned Hall with Ned’s Nan, Helen, who took on the challenge and successfully felled the weed tree by the staffroom windows. They were ably assisted by their neighbour. Sam, Darcy and Ted Stringer followed up by chainsawing the remaining stump to the ground and sawing up the remaining limbs to be thrown into the skip. This tree was removed to stop damage to the foundations of the school.

We operate a first aid room at Wattle Park Primary school. In order to keep our First Aid Room clean and tidy, we require parent volunteers to assist us each Friday. We'd love 40 families to help - so you only have to help once a year!
For only around 15 minutes we appreciate you checking the area, changing the sheets, and returned washed sheets the following Monday.
