Dear Parents and Carers,
First of all, many thanks for being so understanding with the multiple changes of swimming dates.
There was certainly confusion between PLC and ourselves that has hopefully been sorted for the remaining days of the term. The school is so grateful to be able to use the swimming pool of PLC and has done so long before my arrival at the school. It is so important that every Australian child learns to swim and swim well. Australia is an island with beautiful beaches, but they can also be treacherous beaches. What we aspire to provide at primary schools is a quality swimming program and water safety education so that all students have the opportunity to learn how to swim, develop lifelong skills in water safety to reduce their risk of drowning and injury.
It is such an opportune time to conduct the program, before we enter the holiday period with many students having a beach holiday.
At the end of every day, Assistant Principal Mr. Steve Donohue and I sigh with relief that the school has been able to operate for yet another day. Neighbouring and local schools surrounding us have had to close because of positive cases of COVID-19. We are just hoping to be able to crawl to the end of the year without having to have another closure and then reopening of the school.
We continue to follow the COVID-19 guidelines very diligently at school and we are thankful that we have avoided any positive school-based COVID-19 cases. This is a combination of a number of factors including:
We should all be proud of how well we have managed this situation at Wattle Park - as always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or queries.
So, fingers crossed we succeed! Eight and a half days of students’ attendance to go!
This week and last, a number of levels were able to attend excursions. Year 1 to CERES environmental education in Brunswick, Year 3 to a Berry Farm in Wandin East and Year 4 to IMAX and the Melbourne Museum. It was a joy to be able to view the palpable excitement of the students as they alighted a bus! It has been a long time since they were able to enjoy a collective learning experience outside of the school environment with their classmates.
Next Tuesday is the statewide transition day for all students enrolled in State Government schools. So, all of our students will be meeting their teachers and classmates for 2022. All class levels next year will comprise of 2 classes with no class above 25 students.
Mr Donohue and I have been through every class to ensure that each student has at least one friend. Please be aware however that last minute exit of students from the school can have an impact on friendship choices. Teachers have done their absolute best to ensure a balanced class of academic, emotional and social needs.
We’ve had a number of dramatic storms recently in Burwood that have damaged shade sails and trees. The shade sail is supposed to be installed next week and the fallen tree in the driveway avenue is to be removed on Saturday morning.
Hopefully the weekend weather brings us some respite and we can all just take a deep breath and relax!
Warm Regards
Gayle
