Dear Parents and Carers,
One of the many strengths of Wattle Park Primary School is the diversity of our student population and the school community.
This diversity brings a great richness to our community, and we grow so much from learning about and appreciating other cultures. As a school community, we are in a powerful position to influence and shape the next generation of adults. Our conversations and actions at school and at home are crucial in educating our children and ensuring that they are respectful of all others. I must admit I am very proud of our student population who if there is, on a rare occasion, an instance of racism in the playground it is called out immediately by them and not tolerated. Some of our national sporting codes could learn from the examples set by our children.
Lockdown presents a range of challenges to everyone in our society. From a school perspective, we are very mindful of the impact of lockdown and remote learning on our students, families and staff. As you would appreciate, there is no perfect model that will suit every student or family. Maintaining a balance between ongoing student learning and student / family wellbeing is essential. While we encourage all students to access and engage with learning experiences during Remote and Flexible Learning, we also acknowledge that families are best placed to make decisions about when their child(ren) may need a break and whether other activities such as a family walk or a bike ride may be more beneficial for everyone involved.
Thank-you for your patience as we have had to cancel, postpone and/or rescheduled several school events this term, including: - School tours, Regional Cross-Country Events, Athletics sports, Year 3 & 4 camp. Ultimately, we must be guided by Department of Education and Training and will update the community to future events once public health restrictions are lifted.
Over the past two weeks we have had some unwelcome four-legged visitors in our school grounds, mostly around twilight and in the evening- foxes! We know that foxes are familiar residents in this area due to the proximity of Wattle Park. Mr Steve Donohue and I, as well as students present onsite are discovering the entrails of creatures around the school. Please ensure that any pets you own are securely locked away at night. A fox hunter will be on the school grounds setting traps this weekend to hopefully eradicate the current foxes from our site.
More welcome in our school grounds are the many species of native birds- including several species of owls who can often be spotted at dusk or after nightfall. Want to help identify the owls who regularly frequent our school environment? Consider becoming a Hoot Detective!

This would be a great activity to coincide with Science Week.
Stay strong and please if you need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either myself or Assistant Principal Mr Steve Donohue.
Warm Regards
Gayle

We operate a first aid room at Wattle Park Primary school. In order to keep our First Aid Room clean and tidy, we require parent volunteers to assist us each Friday. We'd love 40 families to help - so you only have to help once a year!
For only around 15 minutes we appreciate you checking the area, changing the sheets, and returned washed sheets the following Monday.
