Dear Parents and Carers,
Well, here we are again - Lockdown 6.0. We have all slipped back into gear very quickly and, although many of us find the lockdown experience very challenging, as a community, I think we are all doing a mighty job under the circumstances.
We understand that it can be a challenge to engage students in remote learning tasks, with some days being more constructive than others. Please put your family’s wellbeing first. We understand that each family’s circumstances are different and that it may not be manageable for all set work tasks to be completed every day.
Just remember, your child's class teacher is easily contactable through email and, if you need extra support, don't hesitate in reaching out to any of the staff including myself and assistant principal, Mr Steve Donohue.
The school is running onsite with our specialist staff and learning assistants, supporting children of authorised workers, where both parents are working outside the home, and vulnerable children.
For the staff onsite, it is a demanding role having a range of students with particular needs, they are doing an amazing job and are to be congratulated. One of our learning assistants commented that it is a demanding role but also very rewarding.
Unfortunately, because the specialist staff are onsite, no particular specialist programs are available online however I am aware that class teachers are trying to include a variety of learning tasks.
Lockdown restrictions have been lifted in rural and regional areas. That is exciting news for our colleagues in those areas, where schools can return. Hopefully, metropolitan Melbourne isn't that far behind.
On Thursday we took delivery of twin lambs- a male and a female. One of the parents and I have been advised it is Kim (mother of Max and Ella) has named them Gayle and Steve! Not sure whether the students will think that’s a good idea, but once everyone is back onsite we’ll take a vote with our Scarecrow monitors for other options.
The Year Three and Four camp to Phillip Island is scheduled for Wednesday 1st -3rd September. In the past, when we have come out of lockdowns, school camps have returned very quickly, with the provision that there is only one school at the campsite at a time. This would be the case for us, so it is still a wait-and-see experience. Fingers crossed.
Last Friday with the help of School Councillor, Naomi Levin (mother of Max and Ella) I submitted a ‘Minor Capital Works’ grant for the upgrade of the chicken area. Now that we have eleven spectacular chickens as well as housing two poddy lambs, the area is in desperate need of an upgrade. We will keep you posted on the outcome which is expected in term 4.
At our last staff meeting via WebEx the teachers had a ‘joke session’ where each teacher delivered a suitable joke. Mr John Davey our Visual Arts teacher was the winner with numerous funny anecdotes. The following is one of them, an oldie but a goodie- can’t print the other ones!!
Enjoy the predicted glorious weather on the weekend. Sunshine warms the heart.
Warm Regards
Gayle
A chicken walked into a public library, marched up to the desk and said, “Book, book, book, book.”
So, the librarian handed the bird a book, the chicken accepted it and then left.
Ten minutes later, the chicken returned, threw the book on the desk and said, “Book, book, book, book.”
Once again the librarian handed the chicken a book, the chicken accepted it, and then left.
Ten minutes later, the chicken was back again! It marched up to the librarian, threw the book on the desk, then said, “Book, book, book, book.”
The librarian handed the chicken a third book, but this time decided to follow the bird. She watched the chicken hurry down the street and stop at a pond, where there was a frog sitting on a lily pad.
The chicken showed the book to the frog, but the frog just shook its head and said, “Read it, read it, read it, read it.”

Canteen: Volunteering
Do you have some time to spare? An hour and a half on a Friday would be great!
Our canteen would not be able to run without the wonderful support of the volunteer Parents and Grandparents in our school. We would love to have you volunteer for us, whether you are an experienced hand or an eager learner. Please see below to sign up.
Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:
Mrs Katrina Longayroux is our new Canteen Manager. Please make her feel welcome. And remember - we are always looking for volunteers! Please call the office on 9808 2165 to find out more about how you can volunteer with canteen.
We operate a first aid room at Wattle Park Primary school. In order to keep our First Aid Room clean and tidy, we require parent volunteers to assist us each Friday. We'd love 40 families to help - so you only have to help once a year!
For only around 15 minutes we appreciate you checking the area, changing the sheets, and returned washed sheets the following Monday.
