Principal's Report 6th August 2021

Dear Parent and Carers,

Well, this lockdown certainly came out of the blue! Did not think we would be stepping into another lockdown so quickly.

So, some happy news; please ensure to take the time to have a look at the attachment of the Foundation’s visit to the farm on Wednesday. The Foundation students were just so very excited, and a great day was had by all. Glad that the students were able to enjoy their first excursion for the year. Congratulations to Ms Emma Tan and Mrs Robyn Heeps for their organisation and adherence to Department of Education guidelines ensuring the event was able to go ahead.

Haysie our lamb is to be joined by twin lambs on Monday. I took a call on Thursday morning from Darcy’s dad, Sam Stringer asking me whether the school would be able to accommodate twin lambs whose mother had just passed away that morning. How could I say no? So, the school community will be guardians of 3 lambs! Thank you so much to the families who have already volunteered to take care of Haysie on weekends. We will be needing extra families now to look after the individual lambs. Please ring the office if you are able to help out.

Our new heritage chickens have arrived! Special thanks to Luc Earle Rosback’s mother Jane for sourcing some truly spectacular chickens for the school. Cochin, Hamburgh and Plymouth Rock breeds are now in our chicken coop along with two territorial Isa Brown chickens! At this stage the chickens must be locked in the coop while they become accustomed to their new home. A reminder to the community that you are welcome to view the chickens but at no time are children permitted in the coop without an adult present and under no circumstances are unleashed dogs to be on the school grounds.

Sometimes I’m not sure whether we are a school for children or a school for animals! However, what I do know, is that the lambs and chickens bring so much joy to the children and the community and so many different stories to tell. Like the one this morning, where I had to isolate the Isa Brown chicken for bullying the new chickens! Bullying even happens in the animal kingdom. As a result, that chicken is having consequences and will not be joining the other chickens until later in the day!

Remote learning commences on Monday for all students. Take care everyone and please do not hesitate to call if you need assistance at any time even for a quick chat. Assistant Principal, Mr Steve Donohue and I are more than happy to speak with you and students to help alleviate any concerns.

That’s what makes Victorians so strong- we’re all in this together!

Warm Regards

Gayle

A survey for Foundation parents from the Department of Education.

At the beginning of the school year, the Department of Education and Training provided every Prep student attending a Victorian government school with a red Prep bag.

The Prep bags contained 14 items, including children’s storybooks, flyers, stickers, and stationery items, all designed to help Prep students and their parents and carers thrive from the start of Term 1.

The Department is now inviting families of current Prep students to participate in a short survey, closing Sunday 29 August.

Feedback will help inform what Prep students and their parents and carers like about the Prep bags and what can be improved in 2022.

To have your say, complete the survey through SurveyMonkey

The survey takes about five to ten minutes to complete.

For more information on this year’s Prep bags, refer to the Prep Bags 2021 web page on the Department’s website.
