Dear Parent and Carers,
How so very exciting to have students and parents back onsite! From a raise of hands in classrooms all students enjoyed being back at school. I heard one Year 2 student say, ‘I’m just over lockdowns!’
Students have quickly returned to the routines of school and teachers are certainly grateful that they are now back on site for face-to-face teaching.
In the upper-level classrooms, teachers have tuned in to the Olympics so the students can view live events. There is definitely a buzz in the classrooms when Australian competitors have been successful. It is also interesting to note that at recess and lunchtimes, students are extra active playing basketball, soccer and chasing. The Olympics have had a very positive effect on students’ play.
A few recent changes to the playground. The large sail over the top playground was removed last Friday. A new sail will be reinstalled when warmer weather approaches. Also, the basketball post and ring facing Warrigal Road, has been removed and a new one installed.
Unfortunately, we now only have two chickens however the Foundation students are hand rearing new ones. Not sure yet how many are hens and roosters.
Next week the Foundation students are off on an excursion to the farm! We are so, so pleased that students can attend excursions (under strict conditions). The farm excursion is one of the Foundation team’s favourite. It doesn’t really matter what the weather is like, the students just have the best time and learn so much about farm animals and what constitutes a farm.
At last week’s School Council meeting the camps for Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 were approved. The Year 3 & 4 camp to Phillip Island caters for schools in individual areas with no communal spaces. There is a Plan A and a Plan B depending on state government restrictions as to whether we can attend the ‘Penguin Parade’ or ‘A Maze and Things.’ The Year 5 & 6 Camp to Coonawarra caters for two schools on different sites with all activities located on the grounds. We are certainly hoping that both of these camps will go ahead. I’m sure all parents will be grateful to have their children spend a night or two away from home!
Parent Teacher Interviews are scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday after school. These sessions will be conducted virtually or by phone call. Please ensure to book an appointment through your Compass invitation. If you have any difficulty at all with regards to booking, please don’t hesitate to give the office a call on 9808 2165 to provide assistance.
Earlier this week we received the sad news of the passing of ex-parent and previous PFA President, Lisa Napier. We will remember Lisa for her kindness and generosity of spirit. Lisa was a gatherer of people and made a significant contribution to the school by welcoming parents into the community. Condolences to husband Mike and daughters Lily and Phoebe. Lisa will be remembered most fondly by all who knew her.
This weekend we are able to travel beyond our 5-kilometre zone! Can’t wait to drive out of the city this weekend, out on the open road. Only trouble is, I’m sure everyone else will feel the same!
Enjoy the sunny weather- still cold though!
Warm Regards
Gayle

Canteen: Volunteering
Do you have some time to spare? An hour and a half on a Friday would be great!
Our canteen would not be able to run without the wonderful support of the volunteer Parents and Grandparents in our school. We would love to have you volunteer for us, whether you are an experienced hand or an eager learner. Please see below to sign up.
Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:
Mrs Katrina Longayroux is our new Canteen Manager. Please make her feel welcome. And remember - we are always looking for volunteers! Please call the office on 9808 2165 to find out more about how you can volunteer with canteen.
We operate a first aid room at Wattle Park Primary school. In order to keep our First Aid Room clean and tidy, we require parent volunteers to assist us each Friday. We'd love 40 families to help - so you only have to help once a year!
For only around 15 minutes we appreciate you checking the area, changing the sheets, and returned washed sheets the following Monday.
