Principal's Report - 16th July 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to term 3!

It’s only been a week, but a lot has been happening!

Ms Catherine Churchward has returned to the school and seamlessly stepped into the Year 6 teaching role along with Mr James Feather and Ms Philippa Statkus. Prior to Mr Barrie Dege relocating to Queensland, Barrie donated a number of local indigenous plants to the school. Our Stephanie Alexander gardener, Nikki Browne along with our Year 4 students have planted them in the patch near our water tank and the result is sensational. Make sure to have a look when you are passing by.

Once again, we are hosting a lamb- Haysie. Special thanks to the Stringer family who have kindly sourced a poddy lamb for us to raise. It is convenient timing as the Foundation classes’ integrated unit this term is ‘The Farm’. Haysie is currently being housed at teacher’s homes (thank you Ms

Mason) or in the school building at night until he is stronger.

We will be looking for families to host Haysie on weekends. So, if you are prepared to host please contact me by email; gayle.cope@education.vic.gov.au and I will add you to the schedule. The Gray family have kindly offered to take Haysie home with them this weekend.

This week we welcome a new volunteer Learning Assistant to the school as part of our Language Other than English classes; Mrs Cindy Zhong. Cindy will supplement the program by speaking to the students in Mandarin as well as supporting our LOTE teacher Mrs Melinda Downes presenting cultural activities in Chinese language. Cindy will be volunteering on Wednesdays and Thursdays. A special thank you to members of our Chinese community who made this possible. Cindy is familiar with Wattle Park Primary School having also worked in the Out of Care Hours program, Team Kids. Please see her photo attached and make Cindy welcome if you see her at the school.

I find it difficult mentioning yet another school lockdown. My wish this term was for students to have an uninterrupted term of school. Ms Amy Easterbrook, Mr Daniel Watts and I have been busily organising the Year 3 and 4 camp in Week 8, of this term and it has been so exciting! We haven’t organised a school camp for over a year now and the thought that we will be taking the students on an adventure out of the school is something to really look forward to. Hopefully a short, sharp lockdown ensures that all booked camps this year will go ahead. Fingers crossed.

The plan at this time is for students to return onsite on Wednesday after two days of remote learning next week. All adults onsite are reminded to wear face masks outside and inside buildings. If you are to enter the buildings, you must register by using a QR code that is displayed on all buildings around the school.

It’s a great weekend for reading, doing maths puzzles and long walks or runs around the neighbourhood. We’ve done it all before and succeeded.

Any issues with remote learning please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and all of us here very much look forward to your return onsite on Wednesday.

Warm Regards

Gayle

For only around 15 minutes we appreciate you checking the area, changing the sheets, and returned washed sheets the following Monday.
