Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve done it, we have made it to the end of the year together!
Just so proud of us Victorians, especially Melbournians who tackled this year like no other. There are many positives to have come out of this year- resilience and tolerance being two of them.
We’ve supported one another in the down times and now it’s time to celebrate together in the good times.
On Monday the Year 6’s did just that. The Graduation audience was scaled back this year as per Department of Education guidelines however the night for the students went as planned. A scrumptious meal (thank you Carolina our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Chef and Year 5 parents),a gala ceremony and then a student disco.
The students looked very stylish in their graduation attire and performed their dance routines and songs beautifully. Just so very proud of them all.
Throughout their 7 years together there are the inevitable trials and tribulations of growing up but by the last week of their primary school year that is all put aside and they come together as a united group.
Congratulations to the following students who received student awards:
The Nick Farley Citizenship Award- Minjun K and Naomi C
The Sally Benson Humanitarian Award- Alice C and Oscar C
Reading Award- Clare Z
Principal Award-Nathan S
Staffing for 2021 has been finalised. This year we are saying farewell to two teachers.
Firstly, Ms Ellie Cuolahan has been the successful applicant for a teaching position in Humpty-Doo in Northern Territory. Ellie since her teaching practice days as a university student has always wanted to return to teach in the outback. Her goal is to become a reality! The students, staff and parent community will miss Ms Cuolahan enormously. Ellie is a very talented teacher who develops a close rapport with all of her students as well as having the ability to engage them in their learning tasks to perform at a high standard. We wish Ellie all the very best. At this stage Ellie is on loan to Northern Territory and potentially could return in 2022.
Mr Justin Wong our Language Other than English teacher has resigned from teaching to pursue his music career. Justin plays in a heavy metal band as well as operating his own music school. What a talent! Once again Justin is a loss to the school however we have been exceedingly fortunate to have had Justin here for two years as our Chinese teacher. All the very best Justin in your music pursuits.

A special mention of Assistant Principal Mr Steve Donohue and leadership team; Ms Emma Tan, Mrs Julie Gledhill, Ms Amy Easterbrook, Mr James Feather and Mr Nic Lindsay who supported me in leading the school during a very tumultuous year. Their wise counsel was invaluable in making decisions for the whole school. Wattle Park Primary is indeed fortunate to have such a close, cooperative and collaborative team of teachers. Considering we did have a confirmed case of covid-19 amongst the staff it is a credit to their professionalism that they were still able to deliver a high quality remote learning program for their students.
Thank you to all members of the Wattle Park Primary School community for your support throughout 2020 and for your many good wishes and words of appreciation.
Have a peaceful, safe and Merry Christmas and a relaxing holiday period. Goodbye Year 6- I will miss you!
From the WPPS Canteen Manager for the last time.
Farewell & a hugh thank you for the last 5 years to all the supporters and helpers.
Leanne Wren WPPS Canteen Manager (daughter Alicia Year 6, 2020)
