Dear Parents and Carers,
Yesterday’s Year 3 to Year 6 Athletics Carnival was such a great day. The weather was perfect and the students were so appreciative of actually being able to hop on a bus with their classmates and participate in house events.
I’m not sure what house was the overall winner of the day, points will be tallied today. But in my view, everyone triumphed yesterday.
A special mention of our Physical Education teacher, Mr Nic Lindsay who organised the event; including buses, teaching staff and support staff from Box Hill Athletics Club in swift time. Once we were given the go ahead through our term 4 Operations Guide, Nic went into overdrive to ensure we could manage the event according to the guidelines. Great job!
Our Year 6 cohort of students are a smaller (in number) than usual group and this year I am forever grateful. According to DET Operations guidelines we are able to conduct a face to face graduation night with parents attending in person. It has been touch and go as to whether this would eventuate. Year 6 teachers; Mr Richard Abell and Mr James Feather are nothing but flexible and adaptable with numerous plans for the night. To be honest, it has been nerve-wracking but it will be such an amazing and phenomenal night, parents and students for perhaps just this night will forget that COVID-19 ever happened in 2020! Graduation of course is a celebration of 7 years of primary school not just the last year.
Students transitioned to their new classes for 2021 on Tuesday afternoon, meeting their teacher, new students to the school and their new classroom space. A special acknowledgement to you the parents who have supported the leadership in the decisions we have made regarding student placement. It is definitely no easy task as we have everyone’s best interests at heart, not just one or two students. We are very fortunate that we have an energetic and enthused staff who are only too willing to learn. This year has brought changes like no other and I have been just so impressed with the dedication that the teachers have had to their profession. This extends to your children too. Just from my phone contact on weekends, I know how many staff are working away on their lessons and activities for the following week as well as checking in about particular concerns they may have on their students.
Activities for next week if you are not aware:
Monday-
Wednesday
Friday
Please take note of the last assembly on Friday, commencing at 12:45p.m. As per the last Term 4 School Operations Guidelines we are able to accommodate one person every 2 square metres. So we are inviting Year 6 parents, grandparents and older siblings only to the last event for the year.
Enjoy the weekend with your family. Stay safe and remember only 5 more ‘get ups’ for school!
Warm Regards
Gayle
Wattle Park Primary has a long history of providing care of chickens. We regularly restock our hens when they have come to the end of their laying period.
Unfortunately our current hens are not productive layers anymore so we need to replenish our stock.
That means we now need to find a good home for our chickens.
We have four chickens to accommodate. It would be preferable if the chickens could be taken as two pairs.
If you are interested, please call the office on 9808 2165.
The chickens are such wonderful pets and are lovingly cared for. Thank you to all the chicken monitors during the year who have tended to their needs especially during lockdown.

It’s that time of year, when all students are required to have on a hat for outside play. Children will be required to play in the shade if no hat is worn, and being a Sun Smart School it's important to have sun protection from now until May.
