Hello Everyone,

Happy Father’s Day for Sunday to all the Dads, grandfathers and father figures in our Wattle Park Primary School community.

In June I came across an interesting article in The New York Times that explored Father’s Day in a slightly different way. Rather than focusing on gifts, it encouraged people to take the opportunity to get to know their Dads a little better by asking questions about their lives, experiences, memories and the things that have shaped them.

It offers some wonderful suggestions for conversations that you might like to have with your Dad or father figure this Father’s Day. Perhaps, rather than simply asking, “How was your day?”, take the opportunity to ask something you have never asked before and discover a little more about the person behind the role of “Dad”.

Wishing all the Dads and father figures in our community a very happy Father’s Day, and I hope you enjoy some special time with the people who matter most.

A special thank you to Sjaan Keen, who organised our very popular Father’s Day Breakfast last Thursday. With coffee and muffins from Banksia Café, there was plenty of good food, great coffee and, most importantly, a good old-fashioned chinwag enjoyed by all!

Thank you also to Sjaan, Anna, Rich, Lucy Farmer, Barb Wong, Demaris Dockrill and Danielle Boer, who organised, administered and rallied our students throughout the week as they attended the Father’s Day Stalls held in our Health Room. These events are always a wonderful opportunity for our students to choose something special for their dads and father figures, and they simply wouldn’t happen without the time and effort of our staff and volunteers.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CARERS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK -  Extended!

Our annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey opened online for two weeks from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026. The survey is optional, takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and provides valuable feedback that helps us identify areas for improvement and inform school planning. Last year, your feedback helped shape a range of changes, including our new playground and improvements to the canteen. All families are encouraged to participate, with login details and a unique PIN to be sent via Compass on Monday 17 August.

Enjoying Our New Playground!

The Grade 1/2 students have been making the most of our wonderful new playground! It has been fantastic to see so many smiling faces as children explore, balance and play together. The new space has encouraged teamwork, creativity and active play, while helping students build confidence and friendships. We are so grateful to have such an exciting area for our students to enjoy, and it has quickly become a favourite part of the school day. 

Maia (1/2A): “I enjoy playing on the slide with my friends. My favourite part is the spinny money bars”. 

Nathan (1/2A): “I am excited to come to school to play on the playground and hang on the monkey bars”. 

Evie (1/2B): "I enjoy playing on the monkey bars and the slides.”

Harvey (1/2B): “I like playing with my friends on the new slides”. 

2026.09.11 Year 6 Cereal Box Food Drive

We are excited to announce our Year 6 Cereal Box Food Drive!

Year 6 students are collecting new and unopened boxes of cereal to donate to ‘It’s the Little Things’ charity, helping people in our community who are less fortunate.

Any brand of cereal is welcome! We just ask that donations be in a cereal box that can stand upright and be used as part of our domino chain.

1 cereal box = 3 House Points! Every box donated will earn House Points and students who  earn the most will win a Year 6 Boutique Initiative of their choice, such as dodgeball, a colouring workshop, or another fun activity.

Please bring your cereal box into school by:  FRIDAY 4th SEPTEMBER

Our Big Domino Drop will take place on:         FRIDAY 11th SEPTEMBER! 

The cereal boxes collected will be arranged around the school to create a giant domino chain. The more boxes we collect, the bigger our chain will be! It will be a little like this:

‘Hats on in September’ … and till the end of the year

With our emergence from the Winter gloom into the glorious Springtime sunshine comes the need to be aware of the damage rays can do. As per our Sunsmart Policy WPPS states the following:

From 1 September to 30 April, all students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities. 

“Hats on in September, off in May”

Students who are not wearing appropriate protective clothing or a hat may be asked to play in the shade or in a suitable area protected from the sun.

How to win….

It’s simple

 - Continue to bring your nude food lunches

 - Pick up rubbish around the classroom and school

 - Turn off lights and powerpoints that don’t need to be on

 - Turn off leaking taps

 - Dispose of rubbish appropriately.

Each week, a Scarecrow teacher or leader will visit one classroom (at random). They will select one student for the ECO MVP, and their photo will be taken for Assembly. The student will receive an amazing Banana Trophy and Plantable Pencil.
