Hello Everyone,
2026.08.12 Sushi Day
Thank you to Teneile Kost who, once again with her usual sparkingly efficiently created and administered SUSHI Day on Wednesday just gone.
Thank you Teneile - you make many students very happy!
OUR CHICKENS NEED YOU
The WPPS chickens are a wonderful addition to our school, but they can’t take care of themselves. We rely on families to look after them on weekends, public holidays and curriculum days.
All you need to do is:
If you have some extra time to clean up the coop that is always appreciated, and bonus, if you find some eggs, they’re yours to keep!!
If your child is in Year 4 or older they know what to do. If your child is younger you can find the instructions here or reach out to the office and we can organise a quick training session.
This year chicken duty has been down to an all-time low and we desperately need families to care for the ladies. Did you know if each family did one duty we would fill up the whole year?
The kids love doing it and we’re lucky to have a school with chickens so please do your part by signing up today https://signup.com/go/dKqTDEy
WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CARERS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online for two weeks from Monday 17 August to Friday 28 August 2026. The survey is optional, takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and provides valuable feedback that helps us identify areas for improvement and inform school planning. Last year, your feedback helped shape a range of changes, including our new playground and improvements to the canteen. All families are encouraged to participate, with login details and a unique PIN to be sent via Compass on Monday 17 August.
Wellbeing Newsletter
We are pleased to introduce our new Wellbeing Newsletter, which will keep families informed and connected with the wellbeing initiatives, programs and community events happening across Wattle Park Primary School.
Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader, Kim Duong (Ms D), is leading our whole-school approach to supporting student mental health and wellbeing. Kim looks forward to working in partnership with families to foster a caring and connected school community where every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn.
Parking!
You may have noticed a parking officer, Crystal, from Whitehorse City Council on Banksia Street this morning. Crystal was attending the area following a number of complaints regarding both driving behaviour and parking along Banksia Street.
I had a chat with Crystal this morning, and she explained that Whitehorse City Council has recently revisited complaints received from schools about parking and traffic issues. Council is now taking a more active approach to addressing these concerns and improving the flow and safety of traffic around schools.
Crystal was delightful, but she was certainly on a mission! So, a friendly reminder to everyone: please drive cautiously, park legally and considerately, and treat Banksia Street as a kiss-and-drop zone rather than an opportunity to demonstrate your skills on a race track!
Most importantly, please remember that the safety of our students and families comes first. A few extra minutes of patience and care can make a significant difference to everyone arriving at and leaving school safely.
Our Students
Last Thursday our Year 1/2 students recently had an exciting opportunity to get up close with the fascinating world of minibeasts as part of our Biological Sciences unit.
During our hands-on Minibeast Incursion, students explored a variety of creatures through close observation and interactive discovery stations. They had the chance to handle and feed minibeasts, examine specimens under microscopes and even design their own bug adaptations.
The experience sparked lots of curiosity and excitement as students investigated the unique features and adaptations of different minibeasts. They also explored how living things grow and change and the important roles minibeasts play in our environment and food chains.
It was a wonderful day of learning, discovery and plenty of creepy-crawly fun!

2026.09.11 Year 6 Cereal Box Food Drive!
We are excited to announce our Year 6 Cereal Box Food Drive!
Year 6 students are collecting new and unopened boxes of cereal to donate to ‘It’s the Little Things’ charity, helping people in our community who are less fortunate.
Any brand of cereal is welcome! We just ask that donations be in a cereal box that can stand upright and be used as part of our domino chain.
1 cereal box = 3 House Points! Every box donated will earn House Points and students who earn the most will win a Year 6 Boutique Initiative of their choice, such as dodgeball, a colouring workshop, or another fun activity.
Please bring your cereal box into school by: FRIDAY 4th SEPTEMBER
Our Big Domino Drop will take place on: FRIDAY 11th SEPTEMBER!
The cereal boxes collected will be arranged around the school to create a giant domino chain. The more boxes we collect, the bigger our chain will be! It will be a little like this :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AULyfBG7dhM
Donations can be sent in at any time before the big day!
Thank you for supporting our Year 6 students and helping us make a difference!
Kind regards,
Year 6 Teachers and Students
