Dear Parents and Carers,
The ‘Junior House Sports Day’ on Tuesday organised by our Year 6 House leaders was enjoyed by all. A special thank you to house leaders; Noah B, Liam B, Jack P, Amelia S, Holly B, Dom M, Ella B and Sofia S and PE teacher Mr Nic Lindsay for organising the day.
There were a few slight showers but the students were keen to finish the events so persisted regardless. I’m sure everyone slept well after such an energetic day.
An ‘Athletics Carnival’ is organised for Thursday next week at Hagenauer’s Reserve for Year 3- 6 students inclusive. The simple act of travelling on a bus together will be enjoyed by all I’m sure. Unfortunately parents are not permitted to be involved as volunteers or spectators as they usually would be. Hopefully in 2021, school operations will return to a more normal schedule that we are all used to.
Earlier this week one of our students while walking home and crossing Banksia Street was hit by a car. Fortunately the student suffered minor injuries and recovered quickly, but the thought of what might have been sends shudders down your spine.
Please do take extra care when driving and parking around the school. The speed zone is 40kmh and people should be crossing Banksia Street at the designated crossing zone not opposite the Banksia driveway gates.
We have been advised by Whitehorse Council that due to the return of normal drop-off/pick-up times at local schools that they will be strictly enforcing adherence to parking restrictions and fines will be issued.
Mrs Sylwia Michalska our Performing Arts teacher has informed me that ‘State Schools Spectacular Behind the Scenes’ highlights will be aired this Saturday 5th December at 7:00p.m. on Channel 7. Wattle Park participated for the very first time this year with a handful of Year 5 and 6 students who were prepared to ‘go the course’ during very disrupted practice schedules. We have absolutely no idea whether you will spot any of our students. They will be wearing school uniform, if that helps.
A few dates to be aware of for the last two weeks- Tuesday 8th December, students will be involved in a transition day with their teachers for next year. Monday 14th December is end of year party lunch for classes. Specific information will be communicated by class teachers regarding food and how it is to be presented for individual consumption. Friday 18th December is the last day of school which will include an assembly for students and staff only. School finishes at 1:30p.m. no lunch is required for that day.
Our last School Council meeting is next Tuesday night. I would like to sincerely thank all of our school councillors; President Angus MacKinnon, Secretary Kellie McDonald, Treasurer Scott Sutherland, Mark Boer, Michael Hunt, Rosie Kirn, Naomi Levin, Ben Van Deldan, Helen Dalzotto, Steve Donohue, Emma Tan and Daniel Watts for their commitment to Zoom appearances and virtual decision making throughout the year. Although a very disruptive year it has been a most productive year. Securing funding for a new building after many attempts, has certainly been a highlight.
Teachers have been busy writing reports and these will be distributed hard copy and via Compass during the last week of the year.
Assistant Principal Mr Steve Donohue and I do read all student reports.
Enjoy these cooler summer days courtesy of a La Nina. Have a lovely weekend!

It’s that time of year, when all students are required to have on a hat for outside play. Children will be required to play in the shade if no hat is worn, and being a Sun Smart School it's important to have sun protection from now until May.
