Maths Φpen Morning Extravaganza Day MΦMED!

Year Foundation and 6B  - Teddy Bear Maths

On Tuesday, 19th of May, the school had MOMED - Math Open Morning Extravaganza Day. In the morning, the Foundation students and the Year Sixes met for a math morning full of fun and challenging math questions, teddy bear themed. During this, the Year Sixes helped the Foundations complete different math puzzles for them to improve at pattern, memory, counting and other math skills. They had a lot of fun, and would like to share a few things with us.

George: 'I found it fun because when we solved a question we got a little snack to eat.'

Kaia: 'I liked how parents were able to come and observe us do our math.'

Jody: 'I liked how the Year Sixes helped us with the math.'

Lizzy: 'I liked how we got to bring our teddy bears and sort them in order.'

Arthur: 'I liked doing maths and having the Teddy Bear Picnic with our buddies.'

The Foundations had a great time playing and learning with their buddies. It was a great way for them to learn and have fun at the same time.

Year 1/2  Party Maths

We had a fantastic time at our Party Maths Open Morning! Year 1/2 divided into a variety of exciting activities that made maths come alive. From problem-solving games to hands-on challenges, every task turned into a celebration of numbers. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and creativity as we explored maths in new and joyful ways! A very big thank you to Sjaan for providing us with the delicious cupcake, they were definitely one of the highlights of the day!

Year 3/4 Brain Boggling Maths Problems

“MΦMED was so fun, but challenging. I loved it so much. Lots of parents came to help. We had to crack codes and solve problems. “

Day

Also known as MOMED. As Year 3’s and 4’s we had to go to different tables to solve different Maths problems which were challenging for your group to figure out. There were plenty of fun puzzles that we enjoyed!”
By Adin Gray 4B

MΦMED was amazing! We got to do lots of cool things in groups like a teddy bear pyramid that you had to turn around, and we had to figure out how to take out two pencils and make eleven squares with pencils. Our parents got to visit and check out what we were doing which was awesome.

Year 5

On Tuesday morning, Year 5 students took part in an extended Maths Brainiacs session as part of MΦMED. Working collaboratively, students tackled ‘The Marching Band Problem’, applying persistence, communication, and creative mathematical thinking to find possible solutions. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, teamwork, and problem-solving throughout the session. Everyone did an outstanding job!

Year 6

On Tuesday, 6A visited the 1/2s to assist them with their MOMED (Maths Open Morning Extravaganza Day.) We loved working with the 1/2s as it was a fun way for both of us to practice math skills. One of the activities was called Fairy Bread Fractions! The students got to make fairy bread but they had to put their sprinkles into fractions which was a fun and yummy way to practice fractions. Another activity was Ping Pong Math, the students had to bounce a ping pong ball into a cup and the bottom of the cup would have a number like 54 or a word like "oops zero!" We loved seeing the reaction of the students when they managed to get the ball in the cup!

Overall we had a great morning helping the 1/2s!

Weekend Chicken Volunteers

Our Year Four students do an incredible job caring for our chickens at WPPS. However, they're not there to care for them on weekends so we're in need of some help.

Our SignUp is structured so that you are responsible for the chickens for a full day on the weekend, but this only requires one visit in the morning (at or before 9am) and one visit in the afternoon (between 3pm-5pm).

Please click here to visit the volunteer SignUp page.

Click here to read more about what is required on your visit with our chooks!

Have a great weekend!

The Children’s International Film Festival returns to cinemas from June 6 – July 5. CHIFF screens at Classic Cinemas in Elsternwick, Lido Cinemas in Hawthorn and Cameo Cinemas in Belgrave.

CHIFF is an exciting opportunity for kids to access diverse and interesting age-appropriate films in a festival context. Many films in the program come from acclaimed international festivals, and usually don’t get a general cinema release, so CHIFF is the only opportunity to watch these great stories.

Highlights of the program include the Oscar-nominated animation Little Amelie or the Character of Rain (ages 10+)a moving Brazilian animation with no dialogue, Papaya (ages 5+), live-action adventure in Momo (ages 8+), based on Michael Ende’s The Neverending Story, and Pol the Pirate Mouse (ages 4+), a selection of TV episodes for preschoolers.

CHIFF screens each weekend from June 6, and then the first week of school holidays from June 29 – July 5.
