Principal's Report 15th May 2026

Hello Everyone,

This term, our Year 5 classes have commenced a wonderful learning partnership program with Papilio Early Learning Camberwell, the early learning centre located across Warrigal Road from the school.

Each Tuesday, one of our Year 5 classes takes the short five-minute walk via the school crossing to visit the children at Papilio Early Learning. During these visits, students spend time getting to know one another through shared reading, games and collaborative play experiences.

The program provides valuable leadership opportunities for our Year 5 students while also offering the younger children a warm and positive introduction to the Wattle Park Primary School community. Importantly, it will also establish a strong foundation for the students’ future participation in our Foundation and Year 6 Buddy Program in 2027.

Thank you!

Thank you to Barb for generously donating a new planter bench to Nikki for our SAKGP program. The previous one was quite literally disintegrating before our eyes!

Our Students

YEAR 1/2 & 4 BUDDY PROGRAM!!!

Year 4  students have Year 1/2 buddies! We see them every 2 weeks. Year 4 students support their buddies with learning and have fun with them. We are also role modelling excellent behaviour.

In the first session the Year 4’s helped Year 1/2 students with their reading. We look forward to seeing our buddies for the rest of the year!

Yr 5 Papilo ELC program

On Tuesday, 28th of April, 5A had their first kindergarten buddy experience. It was a meet ‘n’ greet session to get them started but with no assigned buddies yet.

“I played with three separate buddies that day!”
Grace Solly.

“It teaches us responsibility because we have to look after them.”
Grace and Annicka

Every week, Year 5 students go to the nearby kindergarten, Papilio, to play and have fun with their buddies. Having buddies teaches us and them responsibility and respect, and is a great experience. Both the Year 5s and the kindergarten buddies are always so excited and hyped up to see each other!

As a result of our recent School Review, as well as the work we are doing with our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program, our school values changed last year from six:

Our Staff

Continuing our series on getting to know our staff at Wattle Park Primary School, we re-introduce  Ms Neilson, who teaches Year 4A.

Hello Wattle Park Primary School community!

It’s hard to believe I’m already into my second year of teaching Year 4 at Wattle Park Primary School. After completing my first full year last year, I can honestly say I’ve really loved it. From teaching a wonderful class and sharing so many fun moments with them, to getting slimed during the Fun Run, there have already been plenty of memorable experiences along the way. No two days are ever the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about teaching, and I’m looking forward to everything the rest of the year has in store.

I love building strong relationships with students and helping create a classroom where everyone feels supported, challenged, and excited to learn. Watching students grow in confidence, develop new skills, and celebrate their achievements throughout the year is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

Outside of school, I love surfing, animals, spending time at the beach, exploring new places, playing and watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.

I feel very lucky to be part of the Wattle Park community and am excited for another great year ahead.
