Hello Everyone,
Thank you Teneile Kost, who, once again, created, managed and administered the spectacularly popular ‘Sushi Day!’ this past Monday.
Always popular with our community, your time, attention to detail and commitment ensured Sushi Day ran smoothly and provided our students with a fun and delicious lunch experience while also raising valuable funds for our school.

Thank you also to a few of the guys from the Jockey Club, a subsidiary of the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) Ben Beard, Mackka, Dan Hanson and Paul Summerbell who swiftly removed a huge branch that had fallen from one of the ironbarks in our playground last week.

We have a tree audit done every year that involves the identification and assessment of each of the trees on our site. Any tree that is considered to be ‘High Risk is attended to ASAP by a professional Arborist company. This may mean removing the entire tree or pruning any branches that pose a risk.
A couple of weeks ago Mr Feather, our learning Specialist sent an email out to our Year 3 and 5 parents offering them the opportunity to sign their children up for NAPLAN club which has been operating on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday this past week. 25 students have signed up. In this club the students use the Excel Zone online platform to practice NAPLAN tests.

Excel Test zone details have been provided to you via your classroom teacher so your child may also have the opportunity to complete this practice as part of homework. Please email your teacher if you have not received these details.
NAPLAN also provides its own online practice environment: Click on the following link to practise.
Our Students
On the 27th of February Wattle Park Primary School took part in National Clean Up Australia Day. National Clean Up Australia Day is an event when lots of people all over Australia start to pick up rubbish around their neighbourhood, schools and the state! The house captains went to their areas; Bluegum went to twisty trees, Waratah went to both playgrounds, Acacia went to top oval and Lomandra went to the basketball court. Then the Environmental Leaders (Harry and Issy L) made an announcement saying that everyone can start cleaning.
All students in all houses did very well to pick up loads of rubbish from around our school. We filled up over 10 bags full of all sorts of stuff like zooper dooper wrappers, plastic containers, toys, lollie wrappers, snack bar wrappers and much more! When I mean “Much more!” I mean it in a bad way, because our community should not have so much rubbish everywhere. Also this is just a friendly reminder that whoever is reading this, a parent, guardian or even a child, remember, use the bins!
After the cleanup the houses all sat together and had snack together for a job well done. Overall it was a great day cleaning up the school.

Students of the Week!
As a result of our recent School Review, as well as the work we are doing with our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program, our school values changed last year from six:
Respect, Responsibility, Care, Encourage, Value and Challenge
to the ‘Three R’s’; Respect • Responsibility • Resilience
Congratulations to all of our students who have displayed these values this week

Congratulations to:

Our Staff
Continuing our series on getting to know our staff at Wattle Park Primary School, we re-introduce Ms Samanth Teng, who teaches 1/2C on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Happy Lunar New Year to the families who celebrate!
This year, I am teaching 1/2C alongside Anna. We are already well into the term, and I am so impressed with how beautifully the class has settled. I am incredibly proud of the students — they look out for one another and come to school each day ready to learn.
Last week, the class informed me that everyone already knows my background — that I am from Canada and have two children! My response to them was, “Well done for listening so carefully!” ? The children truly pick up on every detail.
So, enough of the bore! I am a proud supporter of the Hawthorn Hawks and am very excited for the season opener this weekend. I also went to the Ed Sheeran concert last week — what an incredible performer! I have a deep appreciation and respect for all artists in the performing arts. My favourite pianist is Richard Goode, particularly for his remarkable interpretations of Ludwig van Beethoven’s sonatas.
Above all, I firmly believe that a child’s wellbeing comes first — when children feel safe, supported, and valued, meaningful learning naturally follows.
