Dear Parents and Carers,I’m sure we are all excited that the COVID-19 restrictions are easing and that life in Melbourne is gradually returning to normal. From a school perspective there are still a few restrictions that we are required to observe. The most important ones from a parent perspective are:
Next week we commence our onsite 2021 Foundation Transition Program, welcoming small groups of future students to our school. It will be wonderful to see the next cohort of students enter the school and meet with our current Foundation teachers.
The leadership team met yesterday and one of the items on our agenda was the possible change of arrival and departure time of our Foundation students for the beginning of next year. Mr Steve Donohue, assistant principal and I will certainly be canvassing Foundation parents’ opinions on whether they would prefer an earlier drop off and pick up time so that our newest students are not overwhelmed.
Similarly, our Year 6 to 7 transition program has been significantly impacted. Very few of our Year 6 students have been able to visit their future secondary schools, however we hope that this will be possible over the remaining few weeks.
As always, the number of destination schools for our Year 6 students is quite significant.
For your interest, I have included a table below indicating the number of students attending particular schools in 2021:
Ashwood High School
Box Hill High School
Camberwell High School
Canterbury Girls School
Koonung Secondary School
Mount Waverley Secondary College
Vermont Secondary College
12 different Independent and Catholic Schools
Unfortunately our Carols event has been cancelled for 2020. As you are aware, there are still restrictions on large gatherings and there are also restrictions on community or group singing within schools. We look forward to the Carols being reintroduced in December 2021.
Preparations for 2021 are well underway. This includes planning for our staffing profile and teacher placement, class structure and class formation. These will be communicated to the school community in due course.
Another casualty of the COVID-19 restrictions is the closure of our school canteen for this term. However after the extremely warm day on Thursday I have decided that fruit flavoured ‘zooper doopers’ (flavoured ice blocks) will be sold at the canteen on Mondays and Fridays at the cost of a $1 coin. Only one ‘zooper dooper’ per student are able to be purchased. These will be sold at the canteen by a teacher and Year 6 student leaders at lunch time only.
Someone mentioned last week that they had completed all of their Christmas shopping. Christmas shopping? Haven’t given it a thought yet! Perhaps it’s a list writing activity this weekend.

It’s that time of year, when all students are required to have on a hat for outside play. Children will be required to play in the shade if no hat is worn, and being a Sun Smart School it's important to have sun protection from now until May.
