Principal's Report 13th February 2026

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to Izzy from Year 6 who wrote our newsletter last week.

Izzy was Principal as a result of winning the successful bid in one of our WPPS Fete Silent auctions items.

Parent Teacher Meetings
On Tuesday and Wednesday night this week we had our Parent Teacher Meetings.

These meetings are an opportunity for you to talk to your child’s classroom teacher/s to discuss how we can work together to provide the most beneficial educational experience for your child.

Please note you are free to book a meeting with your child’s teacher at any time of mutual convenience during the year. Your child's teachers email address is at the top of the year level website

International  Student Program Accreditation

Last week I received notification from the Department of Education's International Schools Division that Wattle Park Primary School has received Level 1 accreditation in the Department of Education’s International Student Program (ISP), valid for a four-year period until 31 December 2029.

This accreditation allows the school to enrol up to 10 international students at any one time under the relevant student visa arrangements. The International Education and Partnerships Division acknowledged and apologised for the delay in finalising the school’s accreditation, which was due to departmental CRICOS registration renewal processes. Supporting documentation, including the formal letter of approval and Certificate of Accreditation, has been provided to the school for its records, confirming Wattle Park Primary School’s successful inclusion in the ISP.

The international students we currently take are those of parents who have a visa to study - usually at Deakin. This particular type of visa has various conditions attached resulting in only a very small number of international students being allowed to attend our school.

Our ISP accreditation allows for WPPS to have up to 10 international students who have their own visa – a significant change enabling us to enrol more students.

Class Representatives
We are fortunate to have an active and engaged school community, and one of the most valuable ways you can contribute is by volunteering as a Class Representative for your child’s class.

The Class Representative plays a vital connection role between the school and families. This volunteer position helps to support communication and build community within your child’s year level and class group.

What the role involves:

Sharing Information: Forward messages from the school and/or class website or key notices to your class WhatsApp group, helping ensure families stay informed about important dates, events and opportunities.

Supporting the Year Level/Teacher: Assist your teacher by distributing relevant class-level information and reminders throughout the year.

✨ Welcoming Families: Be a friendly point of contact, particularly for new families to your class.

Facilitating Community: Encourage positive connections among class families — great for building friendships, organising social get-togethers (if appropriate), and nurturing a strong sense of community.

This role is rewarding and flexible, with the opportunity to share the responsibilities with another parent/carer if desired, making it manageable with your schedule.

Being a Class Representative is a fantastic way to be directly involved in your child’s school experience, support our communication efforts, and contribute meaningfully to the vibrant WPPS community.

If you are interested in being your class’s representative (or co-representative), please let your class teacher know  by the end of next week (Friday 13th Feb)   — we’d love to have you join this valued group.

Our Students
Students of the Week!
As a result of our recent School Review, as well as the work we are doing with our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program, our school values changed last year from six:

Respect, Responsibility, Care, Encourage, Value and Challenge

to the ‘Three R’s’;        Respect • Responsibility • Resilience

Congratulations to all of our students who have displayed these values this week

Our Staff
Our series on our staff has proved very popular over the years. Our new foundation students' parents may be interested to know a little more about Ms Skantzos.

Hello Wattle Park Families!

Some of you may already recognise me, as this is my 17th year at our wonderful school. I am currently teaching Foundation and have loved such a positive start to the year.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to teach across almost every year level and to witness many positive changes and additions to our school community. I’m really looking forward to a semester filled with fun, learning, growth, and supporting our wonderful students.

I live locally and have three children, two of whom are now adults, which gives me a strong connection to both our school and the wider community.

I also help run the school’s social media account, so you may spot some familiar moments from around the school popping up online. Please feel free to say hello if you see me around, I always enjoy chatting with members of our school community.

Ms Skantzos
