Principal's Report 28th November 2025

Hello Everyone,

It  would be hard to have been anywhere near WPPS in the last two weeks and not have run into someone who was helping out, on the committee, or assisting in some way with the  bi-annual WPPS Twilight Fete.

Thank you to the Fete Committee. This is such a huge undertaking only rivalled by the efficiency with which it has been executed. I made only one Fete Committee meeting but the level of multi tasking evident was strataspheric - how lucky we are to have a committee of community volunteers who not only run and attend the fete meetings but simultaneously look after children, cook pasta and/or ice cupcakes for the Fete bake stall!

There are other people to thank as well of course but leading the charge is  the Fete Committee:

  • Danielle Boer
  • Emily Beard
  • Amy Murphy
  • Alicia Rennie
  • Michael Hunt
  • Barb Wong
  • Michael Chan
  • Anndrea Wong
  • Elki Breslin
  • Jason Gay
  • Suskia Malufu
  • Sjaan Keen

And if you didn't hear this on Friday, it’s worth a listen:

Our Students

Yr 5/6 Market Stall

We have some exciting news. The Year 5s and 6s have been working hard to create fantastic stalls for WPPS students to enjoy in the Year 5/6 Festive Market. We have been making advertising posters and videos, signs, stands and special offers in preparation for the day. There will be handmade items, delicious treats and fun games for everyone. Make sure you bring money on Friday 5th of December for an amazing experience. The money will go to the wonderful Year 6s for their graduation.

See you there!!!

Students of the Week!

As a result of our recent School Review, as well as the work we are doing with our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program, our school values have changed from six:

Respect, Responsibility, Care, Encourage, Value and Challenge to the ‘Three R’s’;

Respect • Responsibility • Resilience

Congratulations to all of our students who have displayed these values this week.

This week, we investigated Respect- and how it looks in Digital Spaces

Responsibility - Digital Spaces - We follow ICT protocols and use devices and the internet safely.

House Points

The House Points have been collected for this week.  The winning house decorates the trophy with their colours and has it displayed in the foyer of the school.

Our Staff

Continuing our series on getting to know our staff at Wattle Park Primary School, we re-introduce  Ms Monica Woodhouse, who teaches 3B.

Since joining the Wattle Park community in 2022, a highlight of my teaching week has always been participating in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden sessions. We’re so lucky to start one day in the garden, planting and harvesting herbs and veggies and following this up with cooking in the kitchen. I’ve learned so much from our garden teachers and have put this knowledge to good use planting my own veggie garden at home.

Before joining Wattle Park, I worked as a CRT across several Eastern suburb primary schools. Teaching was a career change for me, prior to this I was a Quality Assurance Officer in the food industry. My days as QA officer were filled with a range of diverse tasks from taste testing batches of hot cross buns and party pies, to calculating nutrition information and performing allergen traces. I feel like this was excellent preparation for teaching at WPPS, where our days in Year 3 are just as varied. We might be focusing on Maths one minute and julienne-ing carrots the next!

Project Playground

Having a visual focus for our fundraising efforts is an important way to galvanise support for community funded projects.

You will notice we have a sign up on the corner of Banksia and Warrigal Road. The purpose of this sign is to:

  • Let everyone know what we are raising money for (New playground)
  • How to help (Donations can be made via the QR code)
  • How much we have and how much more we need to go (About 80G)

This platform is live and the QR code can be used to donate (so feel free to donate!)  but given the proximity of the fete we will leave an official ‘Launch’ to a later date.

Social Media Delay/Ban

Not all social media will be blocked, and it makes some interesting suggestions, including making sure you play whatever game your child is involved in.
