Principal's Report 22nd August 2025

Hello Everyone,

As you know, the safety of our students is our first priority.

Snap Send Solve
Dangerous driving, like doing U-turns in front of our school on Banksia St, continues to make students unsafe. I am incredulous! Particularly in light of the tragic event at a neighbouring school last year, which has highlighted how dangerous they can be. You may not be aware of this facility provided by Whitehorse City Council:

SNAP SEND SOLVE

Basically, it means you can take a picture of dangerous drivers, and if enough of us do it, then action will be taken by the council, which may include the police charging drivers.

So go for it, people!

2025.09.13 (Saturday) Great Big Working Bee!
From 9am to 12 noon, we will be having our once a term working bee. Lots of mulching and spreading of soil. Turn up for some or all of the time and help us make WPPS an even more beautiful place to be!

From 12 - 1 noon, we’ll fire up the BBQ and have sausages (and perhaps a beverage!)

Our Students

13.08.2025 Yr 3 Healsville Sanctuary Excursion

On Wednesday last week, our Year 3 students went to Healesville Sanctuary as part of their science unit investigation into how animals are scientifically classified. Students braved the rain and drizzle to complete hands-on research for their information reports and observe their chosen animal in their habitats.

We saw some Koalas. They were sleeping and some were even curled up. I saw the Short Beaked Echidnas and they were scratching each other.
Anika (3A)

I saw an Olive Python and it was really big. We also saw a Lyrebird - we tried to get it to copy us, but it didn’t.
Ted (3A)

We saw a range of different animals. Some were interesting and some not so much. I enjoyed seeing the Koalas. Seeing the Spirits of the Sky was really interesting, it was fun to see birds doing the tricks.
Indie (3A)

My group saw the dingo, kangaroo, echidnas and koalas. My favourite animals were the birds of prey.  They were so well trained and came so close to our heads!
Charlie (3B)

My favourite animal was the skink. I learned that the manna gum there had over 100 species of animals living in the tree.
Leo (3B)

Learning about the manna gum tree was so interesting. I like how the insects trying to climb the tree got eaten by the spiders, which helped the tree, and stopped all the leaves from being eaten so they could be eaten by koalas.
Claire (3B)

2025.08.27 Homemade Lemonade on Wednesday!
It’s the Little Things Community is a community organisation that provides meals for the less fortunate than us. Amelia B and Marly S  from 4B are creating a homemade lemonade stand to support this organisation and will be operating on Wednesday at lunch time next week!

Our Staff

Our series on our staff proved so popular last year, I have requests for it to return as our parents have different teachers this year.  Re introducing Mr Stephen Roberts who is our PE, Health and occasional CRT  teacher.

Hello everyone,

I graduated from ACU in 2019, and have been at WPPS since early 2023 when I came here to be the P.E. teacher, in 2024 my role was expanded to include teaching health.

I have always had a great love for sport, and really fell in love with teaching P.E. during my relief teaching years, this was because I saw the instruction and feedback I gave students being put into immediate use. My philosophy for teaching P.E. is ‘Volume’ , have the students try a certain skill in as many different ways that they can, I have found this to have much better results in P.E. compared to me talking for a long time about a particular skill. Another aspect of sport I put a lot of emphasis on is sportsmanship, ensuring that students feel comfortable to try a new sport and that sports are seen as a way to positively connect with others.

Outside of work, I play for Eley Park F.C,. even though we are dead last on the ladder, the sense of camaraderie and community that I get from being a part of the club is something that is really important to me.

Additionally I was away in term one this year as I became a father. Becoming a parent has been a huge learning curve for me and my wife but he is without a doubt the best thing to happen to both of us. While it has been eye opening for a number of reasons it has shown me just how much trust and faith parents put into the school which I have personally found to be very humbling.
