House Athletics
Last Friday, our Year 3-6 students enjoyed an action-packed House Athletics Day at Hagenauer Reserve, joining with Box Hill North Primary School for a fantastic day of friendly competition and school spirit. Students enthusiastically took part in a range of events including long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus, shot put, hurdles, overhand throw and running races.
It was wonderful to see so many students proudly dressed in their house colours, cheering each other on and giving their best effort in every event. The day was filled with energy, sportsmanship and some outstanding performances. A huge congratulations to all students for their participation and achievements!
We now look forward to seeing our selected athletics team represent our school at the District Athletics Carnival on Thursday 11th September at the Doncaster Athletics Track. Go team!
Year 5 Public Speaking Incursion
Last Thursday, Year 5 students were fortunate enough to participate in a debating incursion run by students from Salesian College.
Kara
The debating incursion was really fun and helpful. They taught us a lot of things like how to structure a speech and how to use our body language properly and what not to do with our hands. As I was part of the debate held at the end, I personally think it was a great experience for more opportunities in life later on. I thought that having a debate against the other class at the end of the incursion was a great idea, when I heard that we were going to have a debate at the end I was instantly engaged.
Lexi
I thought that the Salesian people who came in were really helpful and nice. They helped us to speak loudly with our chin up, to show really good body language and to use our words really wisely. We learnt how to debate, and we were debating on why homework should be banned. It was a really fun experience and they did a really amazing job explaining all about debates, and now I am so much more confident with my public speaking thanks to them. That was such an amazing experience.
Sophie
On the day that Salesian College came I was so happy. We learnt how to debate, which was very helpful. We learnt how to speak out loud and confidently. We also learnt how to use our body language while doing a debate or a speech out loud. My favourite bit of the day was certainly the debate about homework. Three people got chosen to make a speech and debate about the topic of homework. I was so engaged through the whole thing! Personally, I think that it was very helpful and engaging.

Our Staff
Sarah Nolan - Visual Arts Teacher
It has been such an enjoyable few years in the Art Room at Wattle Park since I started back in 2022. I have been able to get to know every student for who they are in the Art Room, their passions, their strengths and what they want to learn more about.
With the Art Show fast approaching in Term 4 you may see my head spinning a little, my desk a bit more disorganised while the children are working really hard to get all of their amazing pieces ready for display.
With Book Week coming up, each year level has read different books featured as this year’s Book Week finalists as their inspiration for one of their artworks this term. Ask them about which book we looked at and see if they can remember.
All that being said, the main focus for me as the Visual Arts teacher here at Wattle Park is to create a place of peace, happiness, positivity and fun for everyone who walks through the Art Room door along with learning the diverse skills across the curriculum and creating fabulous artworks.
