Hello Everyone,

Many well wishes to all those Mothers and Special persons in their children's lives who, hopefully, had a terrific Mother's Day last Sunday.

Thanks to the efforts of Sjann Keen, Demaris Dockrill, Sally Waller and Anna Rich, our Mothers Day stall went ahead over two days: Thursday 8th and Friday 8th of May. The profit made was $1446.35.

Our Students

2025.05.13 Maths Φpen Morning Extravaganza Day
As part of Education Week, WPPS ran a ‘Maths Φpen Morning Extravaganza Day - MΦMED!’

We had the following investigations occur across the school:

  • Foundation Teddy Bear Maths with Year 6 students - in Foundation classrooms
  • Year 1 & 2 Party Maths - Year Ones and Twos will be in separate rooms
  • Year 3 & 4 Maths Escape Room - in Gymnasium
  • Year 5 Maths-terchef - in Year Five classrooms and kitchen

Yr 3 and 4 - Maths Escape Room
“I thought that it was a great opportunity to work with different people and have some fun with maths. It makes people realise that math can be fun.???➕➖➗”
Veronica Zhou 4B ?

“I think it was a great idea for the teachers to come up with this because it tells how good the students work together for camp and it also helps us learn and get better at math!”
Avery Cen 4B ?

“It makes you better at cooperating and working together.”
Mihika 4A

“It was different maths and you really had to switch your brain on”
Ella 4A

“It was challenging and difficult but I learnt a lot. I had a great time leading my team.”
Anna 3A

“It was definitely challenging, but the lock activities were cool and really fun”
Arvid 3A

Maths and teamwork helped us complete all the problems first! The trickiest part was Newton's number where we had to find a missing number from a sequence. We were given clues - that it was under 21 and the answer would be a multiple of 3 but we had to test out a few numbers to find the answer! Charlie 3B

Foundation
“We measured to see who had the tallest Teddy Bear, and I liked winning the gummy bear jar with my guess.”
Atlas

“We learnt to do plus and minus.”
Maia

“We guessed how many gummy bears were in the jar.”
Harriet

“I liked doing the graphing with my Mum.”
Maeve

“I loved that my brother was helping with the favourite teddy graph.”
Billie

“I liked doing the gummy bear graph.”
Bumi

“I liked the maths where you had to guess the number inside the tiny teddy packs.”
Cressida

Yr 5 MATHS-terchef
Year 5 students went to the kitchen and explored the different ways mathematical skills are used in cooking. Students practised using various units of measurement, worked with fractions, and applied their knowledge of multiplication and division to a real-world context.

This morning we went to the kitchen and we cooked pasta. We did it with maths, like needing 100ml so we had to measure it. We also had to halve the recipe. It was actually really fin. It was hard to do the exact measurement but still really fun!
Ayva S, 5A

In MOMED, we combined the kitchen with maths and we made capunti pasta by using flour, water and salt. We measured the dough for width and length so it would be perfect, then we divided the pasta into equal groups. I enjoyed making the dough because we haven’t done it recently.
Annabelle C, 5B

I loved the MOMED session because we had such great teamwork and we used maths quite often. For example, we had to halve 400g then measure it out. We were focusing really well and we ended up having fun while making delicious pasta. I learnt that you absolutely have to use maths in every food you cook. If you don’t use maths, you would mess up and you wouldn’t have what you expected. Overall, I enjoyed it very much.
Oliver K, 5A

The grade 5s went to the kitchen for MOMED on Tuesday. We incorporated maths in our cooking by using cm to measure the pasta we rolled out and cut. I enjoyed being back in the kitchen and cooking with my friends.
Oliver C, 5B
