Principal's Report 28th March 2025

Hello Everyone,

Wattle Hill Kindergarten will be ceasing operations at the end of 2025.

WHK has been in operation since 1951.

Since it opened onsite this year, WPPS has created a Kinder to Year 5 Reading Buddies program, with a view to incorporating the Kinder into several other existing WPPS programs. These  include changing Assembly once a term to be on a Thursday so WHK could join us and inviting them to participate in our Gardening Program.

We have welcomed them onto our site and enjoyed the mutual benefits provided by such a venture.

Thank you Wattle Hill Kindergarten.

A film about parenting called ‘Seen’
Recently l have had reason to investigate this film and why it was made.

It ‘...explores the transformative power of personal healing for parents but also delves into the scientifically supported effects of such healing on parenting and its impact on child brain development.’

Various professors, doctors and paediatricians were involved in the making and all feedback I have had so far from parents in the community who have watched it has been very positive.

Year 1/2 Toys In Motion Science Incursion
Last Thursday, our Year 1 and 2 students had an exciting visit from a real-life scientist from Swinburne University! Stepping into our makeshift science lab, we were thrilled to see that Elliot had set up a range of hands-on experiments for us to explore.

Through the magic of toys, we investigated the forces that make things move—push, pull, friction, gravity, tension, and torque. From bouncing balls to zooming toy cars and slinkies, every experiment helped bring these scientific concepts to life in a fun and engaging way. The highlight of the day? Creating our very own rotocopters to take home!

It was a fantastic day of curiosity, discovery, and plenty of hands-on learning.

Our Staff

Back by popular demand is our staff profiles section. This week we feature Year 12C Teacher Ms.Samantha Teng:

The start of 2025 has been fantastic, and I feel so fortunate to be teaching Year 1/2C on Mondays and Tuesdays. Sharing this class with Anna is a privilege, and the students have already brought me endless smiles.

I’m passionate about using evidence-based practices in the classroom, and it’s rewarding to see how well the students are thriving through explicit direct instruction. I’m especially impressed by how they’ve adapted to the Sounds-Write program. If you happen to walk by the Year 1/2 classrooms around 9:30 a.m., you’ll likely hear a loud chorus of phonics!

Outside of teaching, I love to travel, explore new cuisines, and watch mysteries. My career and travels have allowed me to teach children from different cultures. One unforgettable experience was taking my Year 10 Canadian class to Mexico, where we built a house for a family without electricity or plumbing. It was an unforgettable experience—especially when a fellow teacher took an unexpected tumble off the roof! Thankfully, we all made it through, and the house still stands to this day.

Thank you Wattle Park students for making my job so incredibly enjoyable! Looking forward to the next three terms!

Easter Eggtacular

Dear WPPS Families,

Thank you for your continued support throughout Term 1!

Your child would have brought home an Easter Eggtacular lucky ticket booklet. We kindly ask for your help in supporting our school by selling the tickets and returning the ticket stubs, along with the cash, in a sealed envelope to the school office by Wednesday, 2 April.

The lucky winners will be drawn during our assembly on the last day of term, Friday 4 April, at 9:15am.

In addition to selling tickets, we are also seeking donations of chocolate Easter eggs and other Easter-themed treats to help create some fantastic hampers for our raffle. Your generous donations will help make this event truly special!

Thank you once again for your incredible support – we really appreciate it!

Regards, WPPS PFA.

PS  There are more ticket booklets at the office should you require more.
