Hello Everyone,
This year, a new system was implemented by the Department of Education (we now call it ‘The DE’ rather than ‘DET’) for students going from Year 6 to Year 7. One of these changes was that parents submitted their high school preferences by early May this year.
These preferences have been confirmed, and it is interesting data to look at.
We have 44 Year 6 students who will attend high school in 2025.
This is where they are going:
10 Government Schools | Students |
ASHWOOD HIGH SCHOOL | 12 |
BALWYN HIGH SCHOOL | 2 |
BLACKBURN HIGH SCHOOL | 1 |
BOX HILL HIGH SCHOOL | 1 |
CAMBERWELL HIGH SCHOOL | 1 |
CANTERBURY GIRLS' SECONDARY | 2 |
FOREST HILL COLLEGE | 1 |
GLEN WAVERLEY SECONDARY | 1 |
KOONUNG SECONDARY SCHOOL | 1 |
MOUNT WAVERLEY SECONDARY | 3 |
25 |
10 Independent schools | 19 |
Our 2024 Year 6s are going to 20 different secondary schools.
For more information, you can have a look at the DE site ‘Moving from primary to secondary school’
2025 Canteen Survey
Closing Monday 25.11.24 at 5pm
We would like to keep our canteen open. To do so, we need it to make more money. One of the ways we are going to do this is to make sure it is open when the community would use it most.

Thank you to everyone who has replied and added their thoughts so far.

Year 5/6 Camp
Our Year 56s go on a school camp each year. We have refined this camping experience so the camps are within a 2 hour drive of the school for medical safety reasons. The plan is:
Odd years A city camp experience
Even years An adventure camp outside of the city
Each of these camps consolidates social connections, the school values and integrates what is being learned in the classroom.
From year 6A
This year for our Year 5/6 camp, we went to Phillip Island Adventure Resort. We had the amazing opportunity to stay in tents with our friends. Some of the best activities were the twin flying fox, raft making, and low ropes. We also had a movie night and a night time koala watch walk. On the last day, we went down to the beach and all had so much fun. At this camp, we made so many unforgettable memories.
For more photos, please see our separate article on the Phillip Island Adventure Resort Camp.

Mathletics Champion
A round of applause for:
Luca K - 1B
who has excelled in Mathletics this week through consistent participation and impressive performance. Well done Luca!
ECO MVP
Congratulations to:
Harrison W - 4B
How to win….
It’s simple
- Continue to bring your nude food lunches
- Pick up rubbish around the classroom and school
- Turn off lights and powerpoints that don’t need to be on
- Turn off leaking taps
- Dispose of rubbish appropriately.
Each week, a Scarecrow teacher or leader will visit one classroom (at random). They will select one student for the ECO MVP, and their photo will be taken for Assembly. The student will receive an amazing eco straw and bag.
House Points
The House Points have been collected for this week. The winning house decorates the trophy with their colours and has it displayed in the foyer of the school.
Our Staff
As you are aware, we regularly host Education Support Students from various tertiary institutions, including, Melbourne Uni, Swinburne, Holmesglen and Deakin. This benefits our students, who receive further individual support and the Tertiary student who manages to complete their course requirements. This week we get to know a little about one of them: Will.
Hi Wattle Park!
Some of you may have seen me around during Term 4 as I have been completing my placement for School Based Education Support with Miss Poorva’s class in 3B. For those who haven’t gotten a chance to know me, in my spare time I love to play video games and cuddle my cat, Fred. A fun fact about is that I can speak French (though not as well as I’d like!). I’ve had such a wonderful seven weeks at Wattle Park and everyone in the community has been so welcoming and kind.
