Maths Olympiad
During Term 2 and 3 high achieving students in Mathematics in Year 5 and 6, compete in an Australian wide Maths competition called the Maths Olympiad. WPPS selected 27 students to compete this year. We met once a week to investigate various problem solving concepts like this:

Spencer wrote down three consecutive counting numbers.
The first is a multiple of 5, the second is a multiple of 3, and the third is a multiple of 4.
What is the least possible sum of Spencer's three numbers?

Results came in last week. WPPS:

  • Is in the top 10% of all teams who competed in Australia.
  • The 2nd highest school in Victoria (above Scotch College)
  • Has 3 students who achieved a perfect score. Only 126 students achieved this out of 36,860 who competed. This puts 3 of our students in the top 0.34% of Australia!
This is an expectational result and testament to the hard work of our students, teachers and parents.
Well done:

ECO MVP
Congratulations to:
Betty B - 5B

How to win….

It’s simple

 - Continue to bring your nude food lunches

 - Pick up rubbish around the classroom and school

 - Turn off lights and powerpoints that don’t need to be on

 - Turn off leaking taps

 - Dispose of rubbish appropriately.

Each week, a Scarecrow teacher or leader will visit one classroom (at random). They will select one student for the ECO MVP, and their photo will be taken for Assembly. The student will receive an amazing eco straw and bag.

House Points
The House Points have been collected for this week.  The winning house decorates the trophy with their colours and has it displayed in the foyer of the school.

Notices

Class Formation Policy
WPPS is sorting out 2025 classes.

Students are placed  in classes based on a variety of factors including:

  • medical requirements
  • legal obligations (intervention/court orders etc)
  • safety concerns
  • academic needs and
  • student generated friendship preferences

If you feel your child has specific educational needs in relation to class placement, please communicate this via email to steven.donohue@education.vic.gov.au by Friday 15th of November.

The WPPS ‘Class Formation Policy’ is on our school website.

‘Hats on in September’ … and till the end of the year
With our emergence from the Winter gloom into the glorious Springtime sunshine comes the need to be aware of the damage rays can do. As per our Sunsmart Policy WPPS states the following:

From 1 September to 30 April, all students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities.

“Hats on in September, off in May”

Students who are not wearing appropriate protective clothing or a hat may be asked to play in the shade or in a suitable area protected from the sun.

Individual Auditions for the 2025 Victorian State School Spectacular
If any student is interested in auditioning individually, to be a singer on stage or part of the orchestra, separate to auditioning for our school choir,  you can do so via this link HERE

Have a great long weekend. Monday is a Curriculum Day, Tuesday is Cup Day - public holiday. Students return to school on Wednesday, 6th November 2024.
