Hello Everyone,
Anyone with a child in primary school would’ve identified the crescendoing hum that for weeks, preceded our Book Week Parade.
That of a thousand sewing machines having various materials rammed through them culminating in the luminous literary joy that was our Book Week Parade last Friday.Special mention and thank you to Sjaan Keen, highly effective PFA member , who organised the book sale stall to coincide with this event.
Not only did we have our Book Week Parade last week but our highly acclaimed Year 1 Cameron Close Reading Program was the lead story on Channel 7s House of Wellness.
Thank you and congratulations to all involved particularly Ms Antonino who relaunched this program post COVID, our Year 1 teachers, Ms Kathy Skanzos, Ms Amy Easterbrook and Judy Dunn from Cameron Close whom we have coordinated this initiative with.

ECO MVP
Congratulations to:
Grace S 3B
How to win….
It’s simple
- Continue to bring your nude food lunches
- Pick up rubbish around the classroom and school
- Turn off lights and powerpoints that don’t need to be on
- Turn off leaking taps
- Dispose of rubbish appropriately.
Each week, a Scarecrow teacher or leader will visit one classroom (at random). They will select one student for the ECO MVP, and their photo will be taken for Assembly. The student will receive an amazing eco straw and bag.
House Points
The House Points have been collected for this week. The winning house decorates the trophy with their colours and has it displayed in the foyer of the school.
Meet the Staff
Continuing our series on getting to know our staff at Wattle Park Primary School, we introduce Lisa Anderson, a student in Educational Support working in Year 3.
My name is Lisa and I’m currently on placement in 3B Miss Poorva’s class whilst completing my studies in Education Support at Holmesglen Institute. My previous working experience was in Early Childhood - having managed several early learning centres in Melbourne and am thoroughly enjoying the change to school based education.
I believe that within my role I am able to advocate for all children and hopefully can assist in creating an environment that encourages and allows for children to be supported in their learning journey. My home life is very busy with 4 boys aged 6,7,12 and 17 that make sure I’m kept on my toes!
I am so grateful to be able to work and learn alongside such wonderful children and staff at Wattle Park Primary, and look forward to meeting some of you along the way.

Ground works
As has become apparent due to the occasional time we have had an ambulance on site, the footpath to both driveways from the Admin and Year 2 building are woefully inadequate for a wheelchair and/or medical staff. These are going to be dug and new concrete footpaths laid in early September.
I am choosing to have this done during school time for the following reasons:
The company doing the work all have Working with Children Checks and are regularly used by schools to do similar work.
2024 Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey
PLEASE TELL US WHAT YOU THINK - extended till Friday 20th September
Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The survey is live from:
Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024 extended till Friday 20th September
The survey will take 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The survey is available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.
A link and PIN were sent to all parents earlier this week. If you did not receive yours, please contact the school office on 9808 2165.
Thank you in anticipation for your much appreciated contribution.
Have a great weekend
