Year 6 Mathematics : ANGLES
The Year 6 students have been learning about angles this term in Mathematics.
As part of the unit, they have been investigating, with and without digital technology, angles on a straight line, angles at a point and vertically opposite angles in order to find unknown angles.
The students have also estimated, measured and compared angles using degrees.
We studied angles in the real world, where students were asked to measure and analyse various angles. Students were then extended to find corresponding, alternate and co-interior angles when two straight lines are crossed by a transversal as well as demonstrate that the angle sum of a triangle is 180° and use this to find the angle sum of a quadrilateral.
In one particular activity (pictured below), students combined their art and mathematical skills to create a display where they measured angles and classified and colour-coded them based on their size.

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.
Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.
The survey is live from:
Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024.
The survey will take 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
The survey is available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.
A link and PIN was sent to all parents earlier this week. If you did not receive yours, please contact the school office on 9808 2165.

Our Staff
As we continue to get to know our staff at WPPS I’d like to introduce our Physical Education and Health teacher, Mr Stephen Roberts.
Hello everyone,
I graduated from ACU in 2019, My first two years of teaching was relief teaching at various schools in the area. In 2022 I was the P.E. teacher for Glendal Primary School in Glen Waverley and came to Wattle Park Primary to run P.E. in 2023. In 2024 my role was expanded to include Health for the Years 2-6.
I have always had a great love for sport, and really fell in love with teaching P.E. during my relief teaching years, this was because I saw the instruction and feedback I gave students being put into immediate use. The addition of Health to my role has been a huge boon as I personally find it highly fascinating and it pairs brilliantly with Physical Education. I am really lucky to have access to the facilities that I do at WPPS. I have taught at schools before where P.E. is run on a single outdoor, half-court basketball court, so having an oval, outdoor courts and indoor courts makes the exploration of different sports a breeze.
Outside of work, I play for Eley Park F.C. The camaraderie and sense of community I experience there are things I deeply cherish. To me, sport represents an essential part of developing a community. I believe it is incredibly important for people to feel they can contribute to a group, have their growth supported, and feel welcomed.
Through P.E. and Health, I hope students feel empowered to challenge themselves. In doing so, they can develop resiliency and sportsmanship. Additionally, I want them to view the development of a skill as a continuous journey of improvement toward a goal, which in itself is a skill they can use elsewhere in their lives.

A fascinating contextual examination of AI and how we can expect it to impact our children.
