Principal's Report 19th April 2024

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Term 2!

I hope everyone had a well earned rest and is ready and raring to go.

Student safety and well being is a priority at WPPS. There have been a series of recent events, abundantly reported on social media, with varying degrees of accuracy and throughout the news cycle that you may find your child/ren curious and/or distressed about. Please note there are resources that might be of assistance to support you navigating conversation with your child about these sort of news items:

  1. Kids Health: How to talk to your child about the news
  1. Raising Children: Supporting Teens with Distressing News Events
  1. Embark Behavioural Health: How to discuss difficult news

On a lighter administrative note:

WPPS school calendar includes dates for 2024 school camps.

Chooks
Thanks to the Stringer Family our fabulous feathered ladies return next week. Thank you to Ms Woodhouse and Ms Duong for incorporating the assistance of Team Kids and the Cameron Close residents to populate our feeding schedule so we do not have to appeal so desperately to our school families to attend to the ladies on the weekends.

New building
You may have noticed our new building arrived. This will become our centre for STEM and Wellbeing. (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

Originally were going to deigned to receive this:

However after sending it back to the architect 8 times and with some very stylish input from Sarah Reutersward who championed the recessed spotted gym with WPPS on the Banksia St facing side we now have this:

Due date for completion, which includes significant ground works to improve the safety for our students and  regarding waste removal is in the next four weeks. Weather dependent.

ANZAC Day Dawn Service at WPPS
Wattle Park Primary School, with the permission of ANZAC House, holds a linkage (by ABC broadcast) to the dawn service on the school grounds.

We invite any interested persons in our school and community to join us in this opportunity to remember our fallen servicemen and women.

We feel this is a great opportunity for those unable to travel to the Shrine of Remembrance for the occasion.

We shall be following the order of ceremony as directed by the ADCC (Anzac Day Commemoration Council).

We ask those interested to gather at the School Administration area by 5.45am for a 6.00am start, concluding at 6.30am on Anzac Day, Thursday, 25th April.

The Ceremony is an important occasion, so that future generations of young Australians do not forget the horror of war and the importance of ANZAC Day in Australia’s history.

Please join us in remembering and giving thanks to the men and women whose love and sacrifice in wartime have enabled all Australians to live in peace and freedom.

We encourage any children who may be in possession of their grandparent’s medals to wear them on the day, noting protocol; medals should be worn to the right side.

Year 2 - ANZAC biscuits
On Thursday the eighteenth of April Grade Two made ANZAC biscuits in the SAKG. We got split into 5 groups and made 2 batches each and we even had a gluten free group. Making them was hard but the result was epic! I loved them so so much. The whole class smelt so good. We each got four biscuits and got to eat 1-2. THEY WERE SO YUM!

On the eighteenth of April Year Two made ANZAC biscuits. The best part was melting the butter. It was so cool watching the butter slowly melt. They tasted really good and they smelt really good too! Making them was really amazing!

Our Staff

It has been absolutely wonderful to be part of the Wattle Park School Community and I have been teaching here since 2018. How time flies! Since I began at Wattle Park, I have taught in the Year 3/4 team and it has been fantastic to meet and get to know so many families over this time. After teaching Year 3 for the past 4 years, I moved to 4B which was marvellous as we helped prepare the students for their  transition to senior school, with a highlight certainly being the additional responsibility of ‘Chicken Monitor!’ I am now thrilled to be teaching with Ms Skantzos in Year 1. I love my Year 1B class!

Thank you all for being such a supportive school community and I look forward to meeting and working in partnership with those of you I have not had the privilege to meet as yet!
