Hello Everyone,
Perhaps it is the frenetic nature of Christmas, the rapt anticipation of impending holidays or generally, just the need to get everything ‘Done by Christmas!’Whatever it may be, there is nothing like the endangerment of a child's life to ricochet us back into appreciating what is important.
This week there was another near miss on Banksia St. due to a driver mounting the curb, driving across the nature strip and onto the footpath, narrowly missing a child.
Yes, you read that correctly, that series of potentially catastrophic events took place this week.
The parent of the child took a picture of the vehicle, including the number plate, which l am extremely tempted to publish, but, in the spirit of ‘goodwill to all people’ I am refraining from doing so.
However, l will draw your attention to this handy little invention, just like I did with the parent who took the picture of the offending driver.

Tue 12.12 Statewide Transition day
All Yr 6 students in every government school across Victoria spend the day at their Yr 7 school. During the last session of this day, all our students meet the teacher they will have for 2024 in the classroom they will be in for 2024.
Our Students
Assembly
Our last Assembly for the year was today!
Yr 1 Cultural Day
This Term, Year Ones have been learning about celebrations and traditions from different cultures. On Friday 1st December children participated in a Cultural Day to celebrate our diverse backgrounds. The students were encouraged to come dressed up in any traditional clothing from their culture and to bring a small plate of traditional foods to share. They enjoyed many appetising dishes which included sushi, dumplings, spanakopita, shortbread, samosas, Polish sweetbread and Sri Lankan sweets . Students participated in various activities throughout the day ranging from Aboriginal dot painting to Bollywood dancing. What a fabulous day of celebrating our shared values of inclusiveness, respect and belonging.
Walk to School Program
The Walk to School whole school breakfast took place on Friday 25th November. This program promotes regular physical activity in Victorian primary school students. It helps children and their families establish active routines for life. It also supports primary schools, local councils, and communities to make active travel easy, safe, and accessible.
Our schools’ average walks/rides per day during the Walk to School fortnight was 114, that’s 38% overall. The SRCs are immensely grateful for the Ashwood & Brickworks Woolworths contributions to this event by providing fresh fruits, and vouchers that were used to purchase yoghurt and fruits to create our fruit cups.
The generous contribution greatly enhanced the breakfast experience for our students and helped us create a memorable and enjoyable event. Let’s continue to help our school build healthy habits for life.
Silent Auction
As part of our recent Fete there was a Silent Auction. ONE of the prizes was slime making and McDonald's with Mr M.
Students of the Week
Well done to all our recipients for actively displaying our school values. Students who are not in attendance to receive their certificate will be awarded at next week's assembly.

Nudie Foodie Award
Congratulations to:
Leo K from 1B
Charlie C from 6A
for winning the Nudie Foodie Award!
How to win….
It’s simple - students are asked to bring in their Nude Food Lunches.
Each week a Scarecrow teacher or leader will visit one classroom (at random). They will select one student with delicious, healthy Nude Food.
Their photo will be taken for Assembly and they will receive an amazing DIY ECO Herb Head Planting Kit.
House Points
The House Points have been collected for this week. The winning house decorates the trophy with their colours and has it displayed in the foyer of the school.
Notices
2023.12.09 Saturday 10 - 12 noon
Tomorrow will be the fourth and final Working Bee for 2023. We have completed a mighty amount of work this year. This short sharp final endeavour will aim to clean out the back of the SAKGP Kitchens and distribute the remaining mulch.
Love to see anyone who has an hour or two to spare.
Hats on in Term 4
With our emergence from the winter gloom into the glorious springtime sunshine comes the need to be aware of the damage rays can do. As per our Sunsmart Policy WPPS states the following:
From 1 September to 30 April, all students must wear a sun protective hat that shades the face, neck and ears for all outdoor activities.
‘Hats on in September, off in May’
Students who are not wearing appropriate protective clothing or a hat will be asked to play in the shade or in a suitable area protected from the sun.
Digital Reports
A reminder from our newsletter (2023.06.23)
Currently we issue reports at the end of Semester 1 (term 1 and 2) and Semester 2 (term 3 and 4).
We also publish them on Compass as digital documents by 4pm on the day they go home.
As agreed upon at School Council on Tuesday this week, and as an environmentally responsible school, this Semester 1 report will be the last time we provide all students with a hard copy report.
In acknowledgement of the preference for a hard copy report, we will still provide paper reports to those parents/guardians who request them. All you will need to do is email your classroom teacher to let them know this is what you would like.
For further information regarding how to access your child/rens reports (from as far back as Semester 2017) please go HERE.
Student reflections will continue to come home as a hard copy in an envelope.
Have a great weekend!

Wattle Park Primary School
We are pleased to invite all parents, carers, relatives and special friends to our annual Christmas Carols event at Wattle Park Primary School on Friday 15th December from 2.30pm - 3.30pm in the school gym.
The children have been practising their carols and it is a lovely way to end another great year! Last year's event was a real joy and we hope to see as many of you there as possible. We realise that not everyone can make it at this time, and wanted to let you know that we hold the carols during the day due to the cost of holding extra events outside of school hours.
Also this year we will have the uniform shop open, as well as the Christmas stall. Come early to sample the goodies and stock up on uniforms for next year!
The kitchen garden program will also have some of their home-made goodies including seeds, beeswax wraps, candied fruits, flavoured salts, and jams/relishes for you to purchase for your Christmas get-togethers!
Thank you all, look forward to seeing you at carols!
Thanks to the kind folks who helped at the fete, we have a selection of Christmas goodies that we will be selling at our Christmas Stall on Friday December 15th, from 8am - 4pm.
Parents and carers are welcome during the day (please sign in), with kids able to purchase before & after school, and during recess and lunch.
Cash and eftpos will be available on the day. Prices range from $1 to $15.
Items include:
- Jewellery (earrings, bracelets)
- Gorgeous tote bags in a variety of colours
- Fairy wands
- Ribbon wands
- Bookmarks
- Heat packs
- Gift cards & other cards
- Coasters
- Noughts and crosses travel games
- Christmas decorations
- As well as many other goodies!
See you there!
The 2023 Twilight Fete Committee is pleased to announce that this year's fete achieved a tremendous result - not only was the fete well attended, but we made a whopping $34,000 for the school.
To put this in perspective, this year's fete made more than in 2018, when the school had more students, and therefore more families contributing time, goods and energy. Also, in comparison to other schools in our area, the income per student generated is extremely impressive.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the entire Wattle Park Primary School community for being part of this. We couldn't have done this without all the donations of time, money and goods.
A final shoutout to our amazing teachers who donated their time and resources both on the day and for the silent auction prizes. The kids and parents are so appreciative of all the enthusiasm and care that you have put into our school community.
The money raised from the fete will go towards school improvement works, including a revamp of the Performing Arts Centre and garden area.
Thank you Wattle Park Primary Community for making the 2023 Twilight Fete a great day for our kids and the local community. See you all in 2025.
It’s that time of year - September, when all students are required to have on a hat for outside play. Children will be required to play in the shade if no hat is worn, and being a Sun Smart School its important to have sun protection from now till May.
New hats are available from the office $15.
If you have a child starting primary school in 2024, it’s time to enrol. Even though the dead line for enrolling your child has passed, late enrolments will be accepted
If you are enrolling the sibling of a student at our school for Foundation in 2024, and both children will be attending our school at the same time, your child is prioritised for a place at our school as per the department’s Placement Policy.
For more information, please read about when and how to enrol your child in Foundation at vic.gov.au/enrolling-foundation-prep.
If you are seeking to enrol your child into Foundation next year, please contact our school office on 9808 2165 to request an enrolment form or visit our website https://www.wattleparkps.vic.edu.au/page/80/Enrolment to download a Word Version – 2024 Enrolments.
5. PSW New Deliver Option
From 15th February, parents are able to order PSW school uniforms online and have the order delivered to the school office. Deliveries will be weekly for parent collection. This will save parents from actually having to go to the PSW shop if you know what you want and sizes.
Above is a screen shot of how the screen would look like.
The parent needs to choose the “Click and Collect” Option, the drop down box will appear and they choose for their item to be delivered to Wattle Park Primary School.
TeamKids have another amazing SUMMER Holiday program planned!
- Learn new skills and make new friends
- Qualified and REMARKABLE Educators
- Digital detox with our no screens policy
- Delicious and nutritious morning and afternoon snacks
- CCS-approved care
