Our Students
Yr 6 Mathematics - Angles
The Year 6 students have been learning about angles this term in Mathematics.
As part of the unit, they have been investigating, with and without digital technology, angles on a straight line, angles at a point and vertically opposite angles in order to find unknown angles.
The students have also estimated, measured and compared angles using degrees.
We studied angles in the real world, where students were asked to measure and analyse angles around the school grounds.
Students were then extended to find corresponding, alternate and co-interior angles when two straight lines are crossed by a transversal as well as demonstrate that the angle sum of a triangle is 180° and use this to find the angle sum of a quadrilateral.
In one particular activity (pictured below), students combined their art and mathematical skills to create a display where they measured angles and classified and colour-coded them based on their size. They then identified vertically opposite, corresponding,

John Monash Science School
Twelve Wattle Park Primary School students were gifted the opportunity to perform their science, maths and robotics skills, at the John Monash Science School on Wednesday, 16th August. The twelve lucky students were:
Mini Mathematicians:
Flynn | Leila | Ray | Zoe W |
Little Scientists:
Jonathan | Lila | Oscar | Lili |
Robogals:
Kavya | Emily S | Franki | Abby F |
Over four sessions, the students will extend their skills and understanding across their chosen topic. In the first session, the Little Mathematicians program made Morse codes that we each had to crack using different strategies. The Little Scientists program learnt about flight and, in this case, resulted in an egg drop competition between four schools. However, we were not allowed to wrap the egg in materials and had a budget to stick to. In the Robogals sessions, we were programming mini robots to do things like go around in a square, then we used that knowledge to do some robot sumo wrestling with colour senses.

House Points
The House Points have been collected for this week. The winning house decorates the trophy with their colours and have it displayed in the foyer of the school.
Deakin Community Childcare Cooperative
I have begun weekly visits to Deakin Community Childcare Cooperative. with 5 of our Year 5 students. DCCC is an independently run Childcare/preschool centre catering for a variety of students from 3-5 years old whose parents attend and/or work at Deakin university. Our WPPS students have great experience with younger children because of our Buddy Program. They chose suitable literature from our library, prepared activities based upon the major theme of the book and engaged with the DCCC staff and students in a friendly and dynamic way. They did an admirable job.
Year 3 & 4 Camp - Phillip Island Adventure Resort
The Year 3 and 4 students took part in a fabulous camp at the Phillip Island Adventure Resort. They participated in various activities such as the Low Ropes Course, Giant Swing, Circotron, Initiatives Course, Archery and the Bouldering Wall. Other highlights were a trip to the Penguin Parade and lunch at the Cowes Foreshore on the final day.
3A - Zan
I really liked the food. The burger on the first day was a highlight. I liked the Circotron because you could go in any direction. Although the Big Swing was scary, it was really fun going backwards and forwards in the air. The initiative course was great because it helped us develop our team work skills.
3A- Sophie
A highlight for camp was when I went on the Giant Swing. It was a new experience for me! A funny thing happened in our cabin later that night. Some of my cabin members were sleep talking.
3B - Tessa
Tessa - A highlight was the giant swing as it was amazing flying through the air. Another highlight was the Circotron as it felt like I was in space! I loved being with my friends in the cabin was great fun.
3B - Josh
Josh - The giant swing was exhilarating as I loved swinging from high up. Being with my friends in the cabin was an exciting experience and we had immense fun. The Circitron was amazing because we were able to go upside down.
4A - Will & Millie
At camp, we tried archery with proper metal arrows. The arrows were hard enough to dent the wood if you missed the target. Hitting the target was harder than you expect. Will’s arrow went through a tiny hole in the board, he didn’t hit the target but he thinks he should have scored points for difficulty!
4A - Justin, Carter, Max, Naomi
The low ropes at the course included leopard crawling, flying fox, cargo nets, chasm leap, barrel roll and a rickety bridge. One obstacle made us hang on to ropes as we swung a log around 180 degree and tried to manoeuvre it into a wedge. It was so tricky only a few people per group managed to work it out. It was challenging but fun.
4B - Lauren
Lauren - We went on the Circotron, there are only four in Australia and two were at our camp! The NASA people made it to feel zero gravity. It was so fun and it felt like I was about to fall, that was the best thing at camp!
4B - Herald
My favourite part at camp was the giant swing. My group got to go on the 16m high swing. We were strapped into a harness with goggles and a helmet. It wasn’t scary at first, but when I got to the free fall, I was shook. I hope I can go again!

First Aid
First aid is a necessary part for keeping our students fit and healthy. To keep this essential part of our school in tip top condition we require the bed linen to be changed once a week by being taken home, given a good wash and put back on the bed.
If you feel you could do this, please come to the First Aid room, chat to the lovely ladies, either, Jo, Sue or Deb and pick up the linen - thank you!
2023.011.18 WPPS Fete - WE NEED DONATIONS
Over the coming months we will be asking Wattle Park families for certain donations to help make the fete a success. We will try to spread out our requests to not overwhelm families but any donations we do receive will be greatly appreciated.

Digital Reports
A reminder from our newsletter (2023.06.23)
Currently we issue reports at the end of Semester 1 (term 1 and 2) and Semester 2 (term 3 and 4).
We also publish them on Compass as digital documents by 4pm on the day they go home.
As agreed upon at School Council on Tuesday this week, and as an environmentally responsible school, this Semester 1 report will be the last time we provide all students with a hard copy report.
In acknowledgement of the preference for a hard copy report, we will still provide paper reports to those parents/guardians who request them. All you will need to do is email your classroom teacher to let them know this is what you would like.
For further information regarding how to access your child/rens reports (from as far back as Semester 2017) please go HERE.
Student reflections will continue to come home as a hard copy in an envelope.
Canteen
Ordering
Our canteen operates on Mondays and Fridays for lunch only.
Due to the timetable change outlined above, orders must be placed by 4pm the day before the order is required. This means:
Monday orders by 4pm Sunday
Friday orders by 4pm Thursday
Orders placed after these times will not be processed.
This allows our Canteen Manager, Charlotte, enough time to get things organised.
To place an order, please download the free Flexischools App from the App Store or Google Play. Once you have downloaded the app you will be able to view and select your orders, and pay online.
Please be aware Flexischools does not automatically change the class of your child to their 2023 class. Please ensure you update this information when you next order.
Canteen: Volunteering
Do you have some time to spare? An hour and a half on a Friday would be great!
Our canteen would not be able to run without the wonderful support of the volunteer Parents and Grandparents in our school. We would love to have you volunteer for us, whether you are an experienced hand or an eager learner. Please see below to sign up.
Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:
Have a great weekend.

Congratulations to the following students for winning the Nudie Foodie Award.
Week 4 - Edward (Year 1)
Week 5 - Oscar (Year 5)
Week 6 - Ida (Year 2)
How to win….
It’s simple - students are asked to bring in their Nude Food Lunches.
Each week a Scarecrow teacher or leader will visit one classroom (at random). They will select one student with delicious, healthy Nude Food.
Their photo will be taken for Assembly and they will receive an amazing DIY ECO Herb Head Planting Kit.
Second Hand Uniform Shop Volunteer
Volunteers are desperately needed to help out our amazing Second Hand Uniform Shop Manager Kelly Baird. If you can spare some time to help out, please contact the office on 9808 2165.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

2. First Aid Room Volunteer
In order to keep our First Aid Room clean and tidy, we require volunteers to assist with this task. We need approximately 40 families on our roster to ensure that every family only needs to do this once per year. It is not time consuming and requires approximately 15 minutes of your time on a FRIDAY.

3. PSW New Deliver Option
From 15th February, parents are able to order PSW school uniforms online and have the order delivered to the school office. Deliveries will be weekly for parent collection. This will save parents from actually having to go to the PSW shop if you know what you want and sizes.
Above is a screen shot of how the screen would look like.
The parent needs to choose the “Click and Collect” Option, the drop down box will appear and they choose for their item to be delivered to Wattle Park Primary School.
