Principal's Report 19th May 2023

Hello Everyone,

As part of our Upper School Leadership Program each of our Year 6 students is part of a leadership team.

Part of this program involves identifying an initiative in the school they would likely develop and writing to me to describe this enterprise, its value to the school and how they propose to implement it. One of the first of these has been the creation of a school beanie. This endeavour is in its final stages and there will be more on this later but needless to say the development process has been of enormous educational value to our  students.

There is much research supporting this type of learning strategy in schools, particularly with young adults. You may be interested in reading further HERE.

(And watch out for the beanie - coming soon…)

Please note Konnective ceased operation on 15.05.2023

Deakin Science
This week the Year 2 students were lucky enough to have a visit from a number of Deakin University pre-service teachers for some interesting science activities based around the theme of mixtures and materials. We have been learning about mixtures in class and enjoyed the opportunity to work in groups to further investigate mixtures as well as materials!

“We were learning about materials and the textures of different surfaces. If something was smooth, bumpy, soft, squishy. At the end we drew a picture of a shelter and we had to label the materials. I had a lot of fun!”
Lachie 2A

“We were learning about different objects/materials, what their names were, what they felt like and what they were used for. We both enjoyed it!”
Annika and Dorsa

“We were mixing different materials together. We were talking about which were mixtures and which were just plain liquids or things.” Grace 2B
“We were using flour, juice and some plain water. We put it in a cup and we saw what happened when we mixed ingredients together. When we mixed the cups with flour and water it was hard, but some of the other mixtures were squishy and soft.”
Olivia 2B

“We were learning about stiff and stretch. One of the interesting things that I learnt was that playdough is soft, I thought clay was soft as well, but when I felt it it was actually hard.”
Felix 2A

“We learnt about things that were stretchy or not. We looked at playdough and clay. We were touching the squishmellow and figuring out if it was stretchy or not. It was fun!’
Ethan 2B

Stephanie Alexander Garden

“3A made minestrone soup. The soup was delicious, tasty and very enjoyable. The rolls were scrumptious too! The rhubarb scones were a nice way to end our session.”
Ayva 3A

“The minestrone soup was incredible. It was savoury, hot and the bread rolls were crispy too! The rhubarb on the scones was sour. Overall, I really enjoyed this cooking session.”
Matilda 3A

“On Tuesday, 3A and 3B made minestrone soup with some yummy bread rolls! The part I loved the best was the rhubarb scones. They were so so yummy.”
Zan 3A

Wattle Park Primary will be holding a Twilight Fete on Saturday 18th November from 3pm-9pm.

The fete will not only raise funds to support students on their education journey, but it is also a fun family orientated event for the entire school community.

To put on this incredible event, we require support in the form of either financial sponsorship or donations of goods. We are currently asking local businesses and school families for sponsorship, as detailed below:

  • Platinum Sponsorship - $3,000 donation
  • Diamond Sponsorship - $2,500 donation
  • Gold Sponsorship - $1,000 donation
  • Silver Sponsorship - $750 donation
  • Bronze Sponsorship - $500 donation

We have individual packages for each sponsorship level which benefit both the school and local businesses.

If you would like further information about our sponsorship opportunities, please contact either of our Sponsorship contacts, Sam Stringer (0438 386 960) or Samantha Stringer (0466 961 801).
