Hello Everyone,

Year 4-5 District Swimming
On Wednesday this week, 26 students from Year 4-6 who qualified in trials held earlier this year, competed in the Division Swimming trials at Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Templestowe.
In swimming there was a lot of schools there. It was so hard. I came first in breaststroke, second in backstroke, 4th in freestyle relay. It was so hard to win backstroke. My time was 45.38 seconds. The person who came first was 42.58 seconds. I think how l can do better is to dive off the block and put my hands up so l can reach out further. The funniest thing there was the weather. It was raining for 10 minutes then the sun was shining for 30 minutes. We came second in the big school house cup. I am going to Aquanation in Ringwood next week to compete in Division Swimming.

I loved how l got to take the bus and l loved how everyone was cheering us on. I maybe would’ve liked to have a longer break to eat our food. Winning these events means l get to go to Division on Thursday next week. It’s not about the place you came, it’s about the time you came. Overall we had a fun time.

Wattle Park Primary Houses
You may have heard some talk from your child/children regarding what house they are in and what they can earn points for. We are actively increasing the profile of the school houses. This is how it works:
Participation in extra curricular school-based events (such as, Running Club)
Nude food
Participating in school based events, cross country, good behaviour
Teachers have a system for collecting points in their classrooms and by Wednesday each week they add them to the school wide tally sheet.
The winning team is acknowledged at Assembly each week and the captains of that house (noted above) accept the trophy on the team's behalf.
We are heightening the profile of this system so we can:
Annual privacy reminder for our school community
It is a requirement from the Department of Education and training that this privacy reminder appears in school newsletters/communication platforms:
Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy.
Please take time to read our school’s collection notice, found on our WPPS Policy page . We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Google Workspace for Education, please contact the school. For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ Privacy Policy — information for parents. This information is also available in ten community languages:
Amharic | Arabic | Dari | Gujarati | Mandarin |

2023 Parent Contributions
Further to information regarding Parent Contributions last week. There are many things your parent contribution pays for. This includes:
Be on the lookout for an alert via ‘CompassPay’ which will indicate contributions are ready to be paid for 2023. We appreciate your efforts and thank you for your support.
If you have any trouble with this system on your mobile device, please uninstall then reinstall your Compass app.
An investment in education is an investment in your child’s future.
Parking
We recently had a visit from Whitehorse City Council to address the bottleneck parking issues that occur in the morning at the intersection of Banksia St and Warrigal Rd. As a result there is new signage coming soon to limit the times cars can park on the school side of Banksia St. I have not been told exactly when this will happen but it’s best I let everyone know to be on the lookout for it. When these signs go up, the police will be able to fine people for parking in the wrong zones at the wrong time.
Canteen: Ordering
Our canteen operates on Mondays and Fridays for lunch only.
Due to the timetable change outlined above, orders must be placed by 5pm the day before the order is required. This means:
Monday orders by 5pm Sunday
Friday orders by 5pm Thursday
Orders placed after these times cannot be processed.
This allows our Canteen Manager, Charlotte, enough time to get things organised.
To place an order, please download the free Flexischools App from the App Store or Google Play. Once you have downloaded the app you will be able to view and select your orders, and pay online.
Canteen: Volunteering
Do you have some time to spare? An hour and a half on a Friday would be great!
Our canteen would not be able to run without the wonderful support of the volunteer Parents and Grandparents in our school. We would love to have you volunteer for us, whether you are an experienced hand or an eager learner. Please see below to sign up.

It is imperative the office has the latest up to date contact details for every child at school.

Please return the forms, even if there are no changes necessary.
Thank you for helping the office to have the very latest contact information. Crucial, in the case of any emergency.
All Year 1 & 2 parents/guardians should have received an email in regards to update contact information. Please return your forms to the office - as soon as possible, even if there are no any changes.
4. Remember - No Hat No Play
It’s that time of year - September to May, when all students are required to have on a hat for outside play. Children will be required to play in the shade if no hat is worn, and being a Sun Smart School its important to have sun protection.
Hats are now available for purchase from office at a cost of $20 each.
5. First Aid Room Volunteer
In order to keep our First Aid Room clean and tidy, we require volunteers to assist with this task. We need approximately 40 families on our roster to ensure that every family only needs to do this once per year. It is not time consuming and requires approximately 15 minutes of your time on a FRIDAY.
