About Us

Introduction

Wattle Park Primary School was first established in 1914. It has a current enrolment of 355 students, who come from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. The school site is approximately 3.4 hectares and is situated within a large green belt in the middle of Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

Guiding Principles

Our school provides a happy and secure environment in which students are able to value and enjoy learning. The curriculum is designed to cater for individual needs. We believe students will grow in confidence and self-esteem as a result of:

  • Achieving mastery of the curriculum, particularly in English and Mathematics.
  • Developing intellectual, personal, social, physical and creative abilities.
  • Learning to work effectively, as individuals and as members of a team.
  • Acquiring decision making, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

We believe children will:

  • Become increasingly responsible for themselves, for others and for their environment.
  • Have a strong sense of belonging, in a community which values, cares for and respects them.

A key feature of the school is the emphasis we give to creating and maintaining a community atmosphere. This is achieved through a caring, approachable staff that provides individual attention to each child. Wattle Park Primary School believes we can best prepare students for secondary education and a full and rewarding life by promoting basic skills, confidence and enjoyment of work and learning.

Curriculum

Wattle Park offers programs in the following:

Within these programs the school offers specialist Art, Music, Library and Physical Education programs, a Perceptual Motor Program, Outdoor Education (including school camps), Information Technology in the classroom and integration facilities and programs. The school positively and actively encourages students with learning difficulties and caters for gifted and talented students. An enrichment program offers classes in the Performing and Visual Arts, Physical Education and Thinking Skills to all students both within and immediately before and after school hours.
The Wattle Park school community is actively involved in school programs, maintenance and improvements. The grounds provide abundant space for active and passive recreation in a picturesque setting. Improved buildings and Learning Technology hardware and software have prepared Wattle Park for a well-resourced and bright future.
The school has strong connections to local sporting organisations. Our children play a wide variety of sports outside of the school environment - these connections are strongly fostered by the parents and teachers here at the school.

Future Directions

A continued upgrading of facilities at the school and improvement to the already attractive grounds will prepare Wattle Park's children for the future.
The school's priorities for our new Strategic Plan are:

  • Teaching and Learning.
